Well, it's not looking like LI will take a direct hit, but the models shown by the weather channel just an hour ago did show 15-20 foot waves hitting the south shore - I wouldn't want a house on Fire Island or Dune Road right now!
Also, the heavy rains we've had this summer have saturated the soil, making it more likely that high winds will topple trees which not only damages cars and houses, but takes out the power.
We're still likely to get some heavy rains and winds, and it wouldn't take much of a push to turn the storm northward enough to hit NJ and bring it much closer to NY.
It's reduced to a strong 3 right now and they say it will probably stay that way, but they also said their projections of strength are worse than their projections of track, so who knows...
As far as LI goes, I'd say late tomorrow or early Wed. you'll have a better idea of what to expect, but if they say it's going to be bad here because it turned north it may be too late to get some of the essentials you want. How many times have residents of southern states boarded up and stocked up and even evacuated only to have it miss them, but I bet most if not all would do it again knowing that one time it's going to hit them direct.

ok...... mike is now thinking it wont be so bad, looks like it will get us on friday, so as long as we dont lose power saterday and sunday brides should be completely fine![]()

I don't think it's going to be that bad...it's just something else for them to report in the news...to scare the wits out of us...and then we get two drops of rain...it's happened before...but better be safe than sorry...stock up on your batteries...make sure you've got some canned food and some bottled water.

They have downgraded the winds from a Category 4 to a Category 3. I am hoping it isn't too bad.
