I am. My Dad did have another daughter with his new wife. But I've never lived with her and she's 12 yrs younger than me.

I can't imagine having that!
Being an only child has its pros and cons.
My parents have 10 brothers and sisters between the two of them and I have at least 20 first cousins...I'm the only only child!

Re: Who's an only child?
do you find as an only child, you're often misunderstood? I mean, the first thing ANYONE ever says is oh, you must be spoiled/selfish blah blah. Personally, I've noticed that the people in my family with siblings are more selfish than I ever could be. And I was only spoiled by my dad, not my mom, so as far as I'm concerned its a wash...Just curious.

I do find that most people are surprised when I tell them I’m an only. The comment I always hear is “You’re so generous for an only child.” Like somehow your parents aren’t supposed to teach you to share if they only have one kid.

Yes, but I don't think this is necessarily a problem... So what if people think I'm spoiled. I am spoiled...With attention and space!!! Only children are certain kind of people, I find...It doesn't mean we're less kind or generous or don't know how to share.

Re: Who's an only child?
I think there is a certain truth to being used to not sharing things... My husband is an only child, and did everything from Karate to gymnastics,to cub scouts, etc etc. Me, being one of four, did a few things here and there, but not every single thing he did. Silly one, but something even as silly as waiting your turn for the phone, for the bathroom, etc etc. When we were dating, he'd get so fustrated when I got another call and had to pass the phone to my brother or if he called and I had to call him back hours later... just things like that.. ITs a huge difference, growing up in a household full of people, and growing up as the only one. Alot of only children may have grown up with tons of cousins around, so thats different, but if you really grew up an only child, there are things that are different. This is NOT to say that he's any less giving than anyone else. I think he BY FAR has a bigger heart than I do
