do you find as an only child, you're often misunderstood? I mean, the first thing ANYONE ever says is oh, you must be spoiled/selfish blah blah. Personally, I've noticed that the people in my family with siblings are more selfish than I ever could be. And I was only spoiled by my dad, not my mom, so as far as I'm concerned its a wash...Just curious.

I woudl NEVER want siblings and I also think I only want to have one child!

I am an only child.

I have a step brother and sister - but they did not live with us.

I can be a selfish brat, but so can FH and he has a brother and sister.

My hubby is. Actually he has 3 (much) younger half-brothers, but since he never lived with them and doesn't see 2 of them, for all intents and purposes, he is an only child.

Which is the reason why he only wants one child. He thinks that we can spoil the heck out of Gianna, just like he was. I don't want her to grow up by herself, so we'll see who wins this 'discussion'!

I am by far NOT an only child (me, my sister, my brother, my brother from stepmom's 1st marriage and my brother from my stepmom and dad). But I often wonder about this.

Why do you NOT consider your stepsiblings and/or 1/2 siblings your real siblings. I am just curious. I consider myself the oldest of 5, even though we have different sets of parents.

I am an only child. My DH considers himself an only child as well. He has 3 half siblings that are much older than him (almost 20yrs) and live in Argentina.

I've always wished I were an only child, but back to reality I am not. Like all things, everything has its plus and minuses in life.

Technically I am not, though my brother grew up with my father and I with my mother. We didn't really 'know' each other growing up, but we are much closer now, though he lives in AZ and rarely comes home

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

My former best friend used to ALWAYS get on my case for being spoiled, just because I was an only child. Fact is, she had a car in HS, I didn't. She went on vacation with her family every year, I didn't. So what if I had a stinking Barbie Pool that I couldn't use because I wasn't allowed to put water in it in the house and it was too heavy to carry. Huh? HUH?????

You know, until the day we stopped being friends she never let that stupid Barbie Pool Go.

wow, there are so many only children on here! that is surprising to me for some reason. that is great!

I'm not an only, youngest of two .. and my brother and I are super close, so I'm thankful for him.

But I've had lots of friends who were onlys .. and (honest to goodness) they are some of the best friends I have, esp. my very best friend Judy. There is simply noone else in the world who is quite as unselfish, giving, loving and compassionate as Judy is.

In the year + that I've been on this site, I've noticed an unusually large number of only children and for some reason I think there's some correlation between the website and a lack of siblings...none of my married friends went to a website or anything like that to help them. Except for one. and she's an only child too. But I come up with random theories all the time.
