Why do people find it's ok to give you advice when you don't even ask for it??(long)

Original post by MRSJLK

I can't stand it when you are telling someone close to you something that you decided and they just assume that you are asking them for their advice/opinion. especially when the advice they are giving you is putting your decision down.

So far since we've been engaged I've heard negative comments about:

choosing a band instead of a DJ
choosing where to go for our honeymoon
Where we are moving to
Trust me the list goes on

I also had a close friend of mine say that I am going to BORED when I am married

It just makes me so mad, why can't people just let you live your life and trust you to make good decisions and just be happy for you

Has this been happening to anyone else??

First of all, this happens to EVERY BRIDE (at least every one I know) so don't stress at all. People are insensitive idiots; once you know and accept this, life is much easier. ;)

See I am meaner and more dark than many of you...when one person (friend of a friend of the family) started in with how stupid we were to have scheduled for a place with no caterer and hire an outside person, another time, why pick such a lacy dress, another time, why not get a more traditional band. And yada yada yada! So one time she started in, I just stared at her intently, crumpled my face and said, 'Oh, god you are so right...what will I ever do?' I whipped out my phone and made a big production of pretending to call FI to say 'we have to cancel the wedding we are doing it all wrong' -- well, she shut right up after that and hasn't said much since.

You are not alone. Every SINGLE one of us has those people who feel the need to tell you what you should and should not be doing.
Even those who flat out say 'WHY are you doing THAT ??' (ie my choice of Black BM dresses.....i've been told they're morbid, ugly, depressing, 'is this a wedding or a funeral' etc etc) I say the same thing over and over and over. - It's my wedding, i'm perfectly capable of deciding what I do and do not like. End of discussion.

i know how it feels, my moh is the kind of person that thinks she knows EVERYTHING! i love her, she is my best friend, but i just told her it's our wedding and we are going to do what we want. i try to remind myself that she is just trying to help, she means well. she made me cry the day i called her to tell her i booked my hall, i was soooo excited and she told me that the place was beautiful, but the food was terrible, how dare she be so rude! i'm over it though, i told her how i felt and she apoligized many times. i told her all the wonderful reviews the place gets and she said it has probably changed, and she is happy b/c it's my day. whatever, tell everyone to mind their business and do what YOU want, it's YOUR day!!!!!! good luck!!

I was getting this at work yesterday and from another bride to be... WHATEVER. Oh yeah, and only two of my co-workers got STDs. For numerous reasons I was sick of my co-workers yesterday and I work with a lot of people. Can we ship all of the rude people to Pluto? Better yet, Uranus... That would be more appropriate.
