Condi has already had a priavate conversation with the commission. But they wanted her to testify publicly. I think they are talking about speaking in private vs. testifying in public.
Yes I know, but my point is WHY? why should Condi be put out as a sacrificial lamd.......BUSH was the president
OH! I think he should testify, too. And Cheney. If Clinton and Gore are testifying, then Bush and Cheney should, too.

Here’s my 2 cents. Yes, I know I’m a bit over the top about this. It’s all pure emotion. I’ll admit that. I’m not mastermind government genius who can tell you EXACTLY what did or didn’t happen. I’m just a lowly voter with a voice.
I agree that I find Condi Rice to be an intelligent woman. I think the media is full of crap and likes to tell us how to think. Condi Rice HAS testified and been interviewed in private with the commission. Bush Sr, Clinton & Bush Jr (as they are called) are all equal in this if you believe they could have actually STOPPED it.
I don’t blame the administrations. I blame the American people in general, including myself, assuming there is blame to lay. We hate when the administration of our country tries to tell us how to run our lives of the lives of our neighbors. We all get huffy about it. We don’t want them to know too much about us, but think they should just ‘know’ all about the bad guys in our country without breaking any privacy laws or seeming too ‘mean’. They should just ‘know’ without assuming or unfairly treating all other citizens or non-citizens, profiling or prying into private files and threatening our civil rights. Sure that sounds possible.
What I hate most about this commission is that it’s a waste of time and taxpayer money. I agree we should investigate what went wrong to prevent it from happening again, but I think the American people will not like the solutions to this problem. Look at Israel and how they live, do we want to live like that? Have our purses checked when we go the mall? Be under constant suspicion? No we don’t want that.
We want someone we can point a finger at and say “They are to blame”. My whole argument with that theory is that I have 19 men I can easily point out for you and say it is indeed REALLY all their fault. Nothing we could have done would have prepared us for this. They didn’t take our airplanes with machine guns, they took them with plastic knives and fear. They beat us because they were willing to think ugly and use that ugliness against us. Who WOULD fly a plane into a building? Only monsters!
Does it take millions of dollars and time to figure out that we got caught with our pants down? All of us. From Bush to the men & women on those airplanes and the men & women in those buildings. This was an act of huge monstrosity. One we couldn’t have planned for because it was outside the realm of our reality at the time. Nowadays, try taking an airplane hostage with a plastic butter knife? At least half the cabin will attack you. We won’t don’t want to die, none of us do, but we won’t kill other innocent Americans if we can help it. We won’t allow terrorist to use us a living bomb which we will die anyway only to destroy the lives of thousands of others. This was done once and we won’t allow it to happen again.
I agree with you wholeheartedly!!!!
Every administration had the opportunity to deal with this situation but everyone including almost every american probably though no one would ever dare to attack us on our own soil. People are always complaining that we spend too much on our military, well look at what cutbacks did.
I think we need to stop finding out who's to blame (its too late now) and all come together to make sure that it never happens again, both democrats and republican alike.

Because she is the National Security Advisor..
Believe it or not no president can actually KNOW everything all the time by just being in the big white house.
She is responsible for sorting through all the information and giving him (Bush) what she feels may or may not need his attention, then he is supposed to decide what is and is not needed and then make decisions.
Not every piece of paper about National Security or threats makes it to the Bush (or any president).
Why publically? Because the Media hound dogs thought it would be nice to torture the administration with something they know that's never been done before. She knows things that honestly I don't WANT us to know about. She gave her testimony in private and that should be enough. But the Media pushed it the democrats wallowed in it and here we are today.
All pretty stupid and a waste of time if you asked me but no one really did, since it seems my last post was ignored.

Not Zip..
So the democrats and any Anti-Bush people can easily and cheerfully point their fingers.
Or so that Bush Supporters or Republicans can just say 'well Clinton is also guilty' and wag their fingers
In this, No one wants to just put their wagging fingers down. Everyone wants to be the innocent one, and everyone wants someone to be guilty. That is the prupose of this. The problem is the answer is We are all guilty and we are all innocent.
Except fortune tellers who should have known.
This is all just a ploy. And a waste of money.
Most victims and survivors dont want to know who's responsible but how we can prevent from happening again. That was supposed to be the point of this. Not to lay blame but to find the holes and fix the problems. But it's an election year and this is just too tempting to allow such a prime opportunity not to use this commission as a form of blame.

All of that sums up ...ZIP ...as a tax payer I find this utterly ridiculous, not to mention we are not really going to get the truth...........I highly doubt the woman is going to get up there and say anything incriminating cause her neck is on the block.......

Sassy: you rock!
Re: David Brooks. The latest issue of _Harper's_ has a cover story by Thomas Frank about how the current administration is screwing the farmers of the Great Plains states (the same folks who overwhelmingly voted for said administration in the last presidential election). Anyway, Frank talks about a recent rightward swing in Brooks' thinking. If you're interested in Brooks's work I recommend reading this article.

How about the fact that people now on TV whine about how friendly fire kills soldiers and how soldiers die overseas in what should be simple missions.. why because they can't train them well enough. No money, no place, no tolerance. We dont want the Navy to practice war games because it kills fish, we dont want the Air Force to practice air strikes because when they do people start to live near the area and then we put lives in danger so that's not safe (altho no one lived there when they started), We don't want the Marines to practice extreme conditions because we cant imagine our soldiers suffering 'if theres no war' and we don't want ANY of the Military intellegence to learn or use what they learn because we might start a war.
Well now look. Untrained and unprepared soldiers who are using outdated items and poor intelligence are sent out to face a group of people who train since childhood in gorilla warfare. Our chance are less likely to be sucessful other than brute numbers and force, which means innocent US soldiers die due to lack of training and then people snake that around to blame the government for having them there at all instead of blaming the government for not training them better, because we americans love to support our troops as long as we dont have to pay for it.

Re: Why the investigation with Condolezza RIce testifying
As far as I know or have witnessed, or military is still very mighty and very successful in what they do. Maybe we should have learned that a mighty army cannot fight guerilla warfare. We are only good at the nation-to-nation type combat.. and well, that's not what's going on in Iraq right now.
I think I would like to see the # on training... If training would stop the very small % of friendly fire incidents. Being realistic, one would think that incidents of friendly fire are rather small.
I think Americans do want to pay for the military, and we have and will continue to do so.. but no one has unlimited resources- that is just not possible.
Men are just men- and men make mistakes.. not even machies NEVER make mistakes.. .no amount of training will eliminated that small deviation.

the USA still has superior military capability and can take anyone and everyone out. the military may not be sufficiently trained to handle what is taking place currently, however it never had to get to that point and contingency plans should have been a part of the overall strategy. i think it was a miscalculation on the administrations part to believe they can scare other people into submission. i, for one, am not of the camp 'might makes right'...
