I live in VA, so I have been trying to find a place for my girls to buy their bridesmaids dresses by phone. They're Jim Hjelm dresses, and they're in the mid to high $200s at places like the Bridal Suite of Bayshore and Bridal Suite in Centereach, but $200 and below (I'm looking for 2 different dresses) at Burtons. Everytime I call stores that say they match any price, they say they don't match with Burtons. Burtons is kind of far for my girls to drive to, and now I'm wondering what is so bad about them that people won't match their price. Do they have knock-offs or something? The bridal boutique I called today said, 'We don't match prices with them for obvious reasons. We don't consider them our competitors'. I told her I've never been there so I don't know what she's talking about. She said, 'Go there and you'll see what I mean'. Since I can't go there, can you guys help me out before I send my girls there to buy dresses? I really don't want to make them spend so much more money.

Re: Why won't anyone match Burton's prices?
well i know that burtons does not advertise.. they are also more of a mom/pop type of place so maybe they cant compete with something like that.
but i do still think that is silly!!!

Re: Why won't anyone match Burton's prices?
I just went to burtons yesterday and ordered my dress....there is absolutely nothing wrong with the place. They have been around forever and they are a brother and sister who own it. It looks like a small house. downstairs is the florist(my sister used them and they were gorgeous) and upstairs is the gowns. They were a plaesure to deal with and they are known to be the cheapest b/c they do not advertise and they work out of a small place...I highly recommend it. HTH

the only reason i can think of why they don't consider them their competetors is because they are not really a 'store'
it really is a house and they are upstairs - it is very small im 5' tall and could barely get a gown on my body in the dressing room - the ceiling was slanted like a triangle and i couldnt even lift my arms

some girl once posted on here 'burton's is a different kind of business' (this was said in a bad way). she did not offer to explain and i have no clue what she meant. some people were offended.
i'd recommend calling phyllis at bridal elegance - her price was the lowest i found for my BM gown and she has a GREAT reputation here.

Re: Why won't anyone match Burton's prices?
nothing wrong with burtons. i went to look and it seemed fine and there was a girl there picking up her dress. i guess the other places just wont make enough off the dress so they wont lower the price that much. if you really want to know, do a search on here or even check the BBB.

Is this a wedding dress or a BM dress?
If you describe it, someone might be able to help! I will try!

Re: Why won't anyone match Burton's prices?
ive never heard of anyone having problems there ive only heard of people not having a 'dress shopping experience' like they had desired
to me - price matters a lot; not ambiance

I dont think you have anything to worry about. For my sis wedding all the BMs ordered their dresses from there and they actually had the same dress as your MOH except a different color. My dress was a jovani so i didnt get it from there but none of the girls had one bad thing to say about the place

I've ordered all my dresses with Burtons and so has my sister, and we've never had any problems with them. Im fact, the lady Carole is very nice and she beats any price.

Re: Why won't anyone match Burton's prices?
sorry to crash... both Paradise Bridal (who i dont suggest) and Fantasia (who were fabulous) matched the quotes that I got from Burtons.... the only reason why i didnt order from there is because it was too lazy to drive all the way there since i am further east...

Thanks everyone. That is really helpful I think I will have them go there, and if it doesn't work out I'll try Bridal Elegance.

If you think Burton is too far for your BM would going into the city be far? RK has many dresses from that designer and I know they match online dresses but maybe you can ask how much the dress is and if there is a price difference ask if they can match it. I think they can ship your dress to a location if they cannot pick up the dress.

Re: Why won't anyone match Burton's prices?
Burton's was the first place I went to. I adored Carole, and the other girl Elana, who was there. They were so helpful, and so much fun. I tried on a bunch of dresses, but wasn't in love with any of them. However, a week later, Carole called to tell me that one of the dresses, the one I liked, was being discontinued. I asked if the sample was for sale, and she sold it to me for half price. I felt terrible when, a few weeks later, shopping for BM dresses, I found a sample in a different shop, that I just FELL IN LOVE with. When I called Carole and told her that I had to pick up the dress, but that I would not be wearing it, she was very nice about it. (I mean, I didn't expect her to take it back, though, that would have been REALLY nice! ) But, she was gracious, and said that if there was anything else I needed to please let her know... I can't say a bad thing about Burtons...
