Wiil your kids be able to have sex at home?

When I was 19 my BF and I wanted to go skiing upstate. My parents wouldn't allow me to go without friends. I turned around to my mom and said 'what makes you think that I have to go 6 hours away to have sex?!'
But at the same tolken she doesn't have to condon pre-marital sex in her house and she never did ... I never had sex while my parents were home, I don't think I'd ever wanted to! Ew.

I have to say that brings up an interesting point...

If i had my parents persmission...i think i would be really weirded out that when i had my SO over...and in my room., that they would be thinking i was having sex.

The thought of my parents knowing this would bother me completely
AND in essence would still make me go else where...defeating the whole point

I think the atatutory rape thing is another issue. And anwyay I hope that if my kids are in a relationship serious enough to be hvaing sex that I know the parents. If the kids are over 18, parental permission doesn't really matter at that point. I know some people said they would allow it as young as 16... except for a few cases, where people have married the person they were with when they were 16, I really don't think 16 year olds should be hvaing sex..and that's JMO, so for my PERSONAL household, if they were college age I think I'd allow it. I wouldn't say 'here, go ahead, have sex' but I wouldn't make my college age daughter's seriosu boyfriend sleep on the couch..

Of course when I actually have kids this could all change

but I grew up in one of those 'sex is dirty' households, and what my mother said didn't prevent me from having sex. We did wait until we were a little older and a little more serious and everything worked out fine. And I don't think anything harmful has come from me having sex while living at home. People live at home later and LATER, and I mean eventually they're gonna be having sex.

I think is an important factor. If I had kids over 18, living at home, I think I would try & overlook what they did.

Under 18 --no way!

if they're in h/s, no! but if they still live with us after college, it would depend.
a. wouldn't want to hear them
b. that can't be the only thing they do (they need to be working or in college or show responsibility)
c. they need to be mature enough to talk to us about it.

dh and i lived with his parents for a while there. but h/s age, no.

I didn't, but i did do other things when they weren't home. I wasn't 'supposed' to have guys over, but they never knew.
I am sure my kid would be capable of of the same, but that's different than acknowledging it & making it easy.

i will give them privacy if they are over 16 and in a 'realtionship.' What they do is up to them - I will trust that my boys and girls will have heeded my advice on waiting for the right person and protection - but I won't try to control them after this age.

I had too much unsafe sex in cars, woods, and seedy motels - even after I was out of college and home visiting! No way do I want that for my kids.

FH and I are not allowed to sleep in the same room when we are at my parents - I respect their rules, but we see them less than his parents - who have made the guest room 'ours' and we are allowed to do what we please in there.

Many of you may not WANT your 16 year old to have sex, but most do and will.

Kids lose their virginity at a very young age, in 16 or so years from now, it will not be any different. It will probably be worse.

I want my kids to be safe - I won't be one of those parents that lives in denial and thinks 'my baby would never have sex at this young an age!' YES THEY WILL.

I have born again Christian parents that were incredibly strict and lived in denial that we were ever 'sinning.' Many of us (we are 6) lost our virginity way young, experimented with lots of drugs, and bordered on extreme rebellion for many years. So I know telling your kids not to have sex and forbidding them from being alone with the opposite sex does not work. I know I am liberal as a result of the way I was raised.

I think the probelm with so many kids today is that parents do not communicate with them enough. We all say 'I'll talk to my kids about sex so they know to wait until they are an adult/married' But will you? You would be in the minority of you did. I can't say I won't be nervous to approach the subject, but I will talk to them openly and encourage communication. My rebellion was directly related to the lack of communication my parents exhibited.

I think the bottom line is, whether you agree on the issue or not, open communication with your children will only help. In fact, alot of studies do show that kids whose parents are open about these things do wait to have sex and don't do it in the house because they are informed, and becasue they have more respect their families/parents.

Treat your kids like humans, and they will give you the same respect. This is something I am very passionate about and an issue that I plan to pursue in my own practice one day with a focus on family and marriage counseling.
