Will I regret it...

Original post by trophywife

if I don't have a videographer?

FH and I can't really decide. we are definitely not into having a camera in our faces all day (besides the photographer, of course).. and as a guest at weddings I hate when they film the dance floor...

I dislike the whole idea of a videographer, but I'm afraid I'll regret it afterwards. Most of my married friends are glad that they did have one because they get to live the moments again any time they want.

Thoughts?

I think you will! I agree with the other girls! You will miss so much of that night that it will be GREAT to sit down with your FH and just watch everything!

i will always be FOR the video in any debate! i am not a video person- i always hide, however, a video is the only thing you will have that can really capture the mood of the night, and you can see yourselves having an awesome time. it also captures the really really funny things that people do. im usually the one on the one in the background of the video doing something stupid lol.
plus its something that you can show your kids.
and its the best memory you can have of the day. i have heard so many brides say it goes by so fast and its like a complete blur. you get to relive the day and night over and over.
plus i plan to watch once a year on our anniversary.
i cant say whether or not YOU will regret it, but its something thats important to me, and something that i consider a splurge item.

It's up to you, I know I would regret not having a videographer because I want the professional dvd's for us and our parents.

I'm not too keen about having camera's all in my face, but I'm sure if you tell them to maintain a comfortable distance they can make it work. They're professionals and they should be able to make it look great regardless of how far away they are from you. And ask if they have a wireless mic to attach to your FH so they can be far away but still have everything said fed into the video.

I am having video bc I think the day will move so fast that I want to be able to go back and see it. We are also worried that if we do not do it we will wish we had. We just got very basic coverage for a geat price ($800) if you want info on the videographer FM me.

I wasn't going to get one b/c I thought I'd never watch it. When I told this to married couples, they all said that they do and that it's worth it. They said it brings up memories, emotions and people who may not be around any more.

I'm just going to do something basic, bc I don't want to regret not having it. At least we'll have something.

I am doing it because I know for myself I going to be so hectic that day that I am not going to have a chance to enjoy and remember every moment. With the video I can relive the wedding and see how much fun FH and I had with all of our guests.

I've heard so many things from newlyweds that the video is really, really worth it.

I never ever thought I was going to want a video but I sat and thought about all the moments that I might miss how its going to be a big blur and I can always have my grandparents who are not going to be around forever and even my parents on video forever and I can pass it down to my children and then they can pass it to their children. I wish I could see a video of my grandparents wedding that would flippin awesome.

Put it this way...I don't think you'll regret it if you do hire a videographer. I want one b/c my mom and grandfather are no longer with us and I would have loved to have a video of them at my cousin's communion.... the last family party they were both around for. Also, FH's mom lives inFL with his brothers.... we don't see them very often, and having this will be a nice treat...

FH and I have been at odds over this for sometime. He doesn't want it and I do. Then someone on here mentioned the fact of someone passing away you could see on the video and in 30-40 years when our parents pass we can have the memories. We finally agreed if I can get a video under 1000 we can get it

We're doing one. FH didn't want one, but then my sister pointed two things out:

1- We're going to be so busy that day, that we're not going to see a lot of what goes on

2- FH will have his dance with his mom, I'll have my dance with my dad. And all of our other loved ones will be there. One day, they won't be around anymore, and it'll be a great memory to have on video.

Re: Will I regret it...

I tackled this dilemma myself.

Initially i was totally opposed. Thought it was a waste and kept saying 'i'm never going to watch it'

Then I visited family and they showed me a video of a wedding from the 60s. My mom was abut 5 years old and my grandma (whom I've never met) was in it too, drinking wine, having a good time. It was wonderful to see a glimps of a past I was on a part of and to see loved ones back in the day. My aunt also said one important thing...the photographer will capture the pictures of the day but the sounds you'll never hear again unless u have a video. And so now I'm having one. You never know who will watch it down the road.
