Re: Will you like you new last name
I'm taking his name, not hyphenating. I like his last name, but it's definitely going to be weird not to be called by my name anymore.

Am I the only one keeping my last name and not at least adding his?!
You're not alone. I don't think I'm going to take his name--but it stinks b/c his last name is AWESOME!!! BTW, I heard once that not changing your name complicates taxes and stuff. Does anyone have info or experience with this?
I am not taking his name either...he says I should keep mine since I am an artist and am trying to get known by the name I have now. Plus I like my name better! haha As far as taxes it shouldn't matter what your name is, since you check off a box for your marital status. In most cases places want to see copies of your marriage license as proof...i don't think it's an issue, but i guess I'll be finding out in about 10 months! hehe

Re: Will you like you new last name
im going from a five letter last name to a 10 letter really italian last name.
and they dont sound goo hyphenated, and would be too long.
but i dont have a middle name - so im goign to make my maiden name my middle name.

I'm proud of it, so I think I'm going to keep it. Plus he's totally fine about my keeping my own name though he agrees my first name and his last name sounds so cool
BTW, I heard once that not changing your name complicates taxes and stuff. Does anyone have info or experience with this?
there isnt any tax implications

I love my name, nice and easy: Smith.
But his last name gives me the Irish name that goes with my face full of freckles!

im gong from an italian name......to a spanish....its been a joke b/c i sooo dont look like a Diaz!
I am too! My FH doesn't look spanish either, his dad is 1/2 puerto rican and the other 1/2 italian. FH has blonde/reddish hair and blue eyes. I am 'sad' (for lack of a better word) about losing my last name only because my dad had 4 girls and no one is left to carry the name. One of my sisters still uses it with her new last name so I guess that is good, but no boys to carry it on for generations.

Me too! I am having a hard time with giving it up!! But I love him and my name will still 'flow' so it's ok!

Re: Will you like you new last name
I love my last name, its very unique....put it this way, anyone that has my last name is definitely related to me! Unlike FH's last name, it's JOHNSON you don't get more plain than that.....I'm not knocking anyone with easy names, its just after having a last name that stood out for so long (its german) to go to a plain name that says nothing about your heritage or anything...it's very blah!
I thought about hyphenating....but most of the women I know that are hyphenated are pompous b*tches!! I don't want anyone to assume I'm stuck up because I decided to hyphenate...so ultimately I think I'll be making the sacrifice and taking his name

Re: Will you like you new last name
NO! I love my last name and I would love to just keep mine and that's it (actually in Brazil, brides don't change their names) BUT I love him and I know he would be offended if I didn't take his name, so I am adding his to mine. He already gives me a hard time about our kids having both last names.... XOXOXO Kitty

Re: Will you like you new last name
This has been an argument for a little while....he's very traditional and wants me to take it. I don't want to for a few reasons: 1. Everyone always mispronounces/misspells his name even though it's not that difficult and it annoys me. 2. His family lives in the same town we do and they are troublemakers...I don't want to be associated with them, not that he does either...same thing as HelenZ...last name is unique enough that there's no mistaking the relationship. 3. I'm a professional and I've worked hard to try to become known in in my field and I don't want to change my name...he's okay with me hyphenating it for business reasons only. 4. My last name is very country club, my name flows well and I like it. That sounds snobby but it is what it is.
I'm glad to see that there are other girls on here who are reluctant to take FH's name too. I thought there was something wrong with me for not being excited about taking his name.

Sorry to hear that they're trouble makers....any chance of moving out of town?? lol
Good luck with whatever you decide...but at least for professional reasons, you have a good case for still using your name. I thought I was being b*tchy but like you said I'm glad to see so many feel the same way!!
