Has anyone had a wine ceremony before (in place of the unity candle)? The bride pours a glass of white wine into a decanter and the groom pours a glass of red wine into the decanter to symbolize the union of two. Then, the couple drinks the mixed wine. I want to do this for my wedding since I am having a vineyard theme.
Does anyone have pictures of this? I am thinking I can dress up the decanter a bit with a small ribbon around the neck...or maybe crystals going all around ;)

Do you think it looks elegant without any ribbon or charms on the neck of the caraffes, or do you think it should be dressed up with something?

thats a great idea! I like the decanters as they are in the picture but maybe you could get fancier ones at Pier 1 or BBB if you wanted but I don't think it is necessary

our officiant told us about this...i loved the idea but fh does not like wine so there went that idea
i think that the way they are is perfect, no need to dress the decanter up

Re: Wine Ceremony...
yes people did this back a few hundred years ago the mixing with two wines.
They do it at medieval festival weddngs but use mead wine but I do like the twist of having two different wines mixing. Usually the wife pours the husband a glass of wine and he takes the glass and shares it with her.
Very symbolic - very cool.

We are doing this I am very excited to see that we are not the only ones... I actually like the idea of dressing up the decanters a bit... i may do a delicate ribbon on the smallest point of the next of the decanter with just alittle bling... not sure yet though.
My biggest thing right now is finding a good reading for it - something really symbolic. Any suggestions???

Re: Wine Ceremony...
you can engrave one decanter with BRIDE. the other with GROOM. and then the glass can have the date of your wedding.

I love this idea!! I talked to FH and he says he'd love to do it as long as I don't make any funny faces or spit it back at him... hahahaha...

Re: Wine Ceremony...
we did a wine ceremony but used only white wine...there are pro pics of the glasses in my albums. I bought engraved glasses at Things remembered nad the middle glass at Fortunoff. We got a lot of compliments on the wine cermony because its not done often.

We're doing this too!! I'm so happy to see that other people are doing it too!!
We are taking a vintage from the year I was born and one from the year FH was born and we're mixing those... I didn't think about decanters, but I think we'll do the 'Bride' and 'Groom' engraved-- that is a cute idea! I haven't thought of dressing them up yet, but I will need to add some kind of crystals to it! I would def. at least do a ribbon!

Re: Wine Ceremony...
we are doing this but with WHITE WINE ONLY - our officiant said she knew too many brides who had spilled red on their dresses and it wasn't worth it!! and I would actually be the one to do it!!!! red all over my silk dress!!! so I'm playing it safe
