Winter wedding advice please!

Winter wedding advice please!

I need some advice from all the past and current winter brides.

I am getting married in January 2008 and am currently booking my vendors - is there anything that you added to any contracts in case of snow? Is there usually a snow policy or would I have to work that out with each vendor?

I know JT said that in the past if it snowed like 2 feet the couple could postpone the wedding for no cost (the thought of this makes me want to puke!) but should i bring this up with my other vendors? Also - i have been reading about limos not coming in RAINY conditions - what is the deal with that?

Did anyone have to change plans due to snow? Did anyone add anything to their contracts in case of snow?

THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to read this - i get sick everytime i even think of it - and i LOVE snow - just not blizzards on my wedding day!

PLUS my e party had to be rescheduled bc of the blizzard in February this year so i feel like i am jinxed!

maybe consider wedding insurance? i dont know if and which vendors will work with a snow clause, but i wouldnt worry too much over whether or not its going to snow on your day. most likey it wont, and if it does, chances are it wont be a blizzard (i guess i am an optimist).

There should be a clause regarding snow. For example, we had it where if we considered it too dangerous for people to drive we could postpone the wedding to a safer date. The hall, however, would get to chose that date based on availability and on what we paid. (Since we paid for a Friday we could not get a Saturday night...etc)

My wedding was the weekend after the big snow this past February. I didnt have insurance. But I do have a very good friend who is a meteorologist on TV who hooked my up with reports in the weeks before the wedding.

Anyway, I suggest that you do not book any vendors that have to cross any bridges or tunnels to get to your ceremony or reception. Most of our vendors were local with not more than a 20 minute drive to where we were married. We discussed the possibility of snow or dangerous weather and it was rather clear that the wedding would have been postponed without penalty had it been dangerous.

We booked a place for a Saturday night that was not booked on the next day(fortunately for us) and if we had to push it one more day, thats what we would have done. We also had a low minimum (100).

You need to check the contracts with your vendors. A lot of them have a clause for 'act of god'.

I am getting married Feb 07 and we took out wedding insurance just in case. It covers everything and its pretty inexspensive, you should check it out.

Feb bride here and didn't take out insurance. We didn't worry about it too much. There have been plenty of weddings in a snow storm and although you don't want that to happen, it will all work out.

We had a beautiful 60 degree day on Feb 28.

I am getting married in February... .and ot be honest, we didn't even think of putting that in our contracts with vendors. Not sure if it was something i should have thought of or noty, but i am hoping for the best. all of vendors are local and we shoudl be fine. also, from what i've heard on wedding insurance, it does NOT cover weather unless it's something like a tornado or an earthquake, neither of which is likely to happen in NY. I am noty too worried... you can't control the weather. i could have had the JUne wedding that I wanted, but look how it pissed rain for days and days the past two weekends. you can't control the weather.

We are getting married a month before you, Dec 1st, and this definitely crossed my mind. My Limo company said they would upgrade from the lincoln and cadillac vintage car we have to hummers and explorers at no cost if we needed to.

We got married on Feb 25th and lucked out with great weather. However we purchased wedding insurance through wedsafe, just for piece of mind. I still don't regret it, because we spent so much money on everything. Fact is if anything had gone wrong it would have been worth the extra few hundred dollars.

We got married the day before the blizzard. It started snowing around 5:00 - our reception was over at 6:00, thank goodness. We purchased wedding insurance - it is very cheap and it covers EVERYTHING. (I think except if the wedding is called off by choice-it even covers if someone gets really sick and it has to be postponed)

It does cover weather -the clause basically states, if more than 1/2 of your guests do not show up (because of snow, hurricane, storms, etc.) - the costs are covered. It covers all your vendors. Check out wedsafe.com - for an extra $200 you can forget about worrying about losing $20,000, it is totally worth it IMO and I am glad we did it.

When I was booking everything for my wedding I think the only thing I would have lost out on would have been the cake and the flowers. A lot of other vendors are flexible in situations like that.

Re: Winter wedding advice please!

thanks again ladies - i will look into wedding insurance!

i know that there is only a small chance that i would have to cancel due to snow - BUT if you talked to MY family you would think that they are all psychic and can see the 12 ft of snow piling up on my wedding day. . . when i booked the day i was nothing but excited - but since then i have heard so many horrible and discouraging remarks that i have been having nightmares!

i should just listen to the girls on here! always helpful and optimistic!

Re: Winter wedding advice please!

My wedding was the weekend of the blizzard. Luckily it held off until the afternoon and everyone made it home safely. I added 'snow clauses' into all of my vendor contracts to make sure we were covered in case of an emergency. It just made me more comfortable with planning processes knowing that we had options. I also think none of the vendors actually expected a blizzard to hit. We still went on as planned and loved our day! The only thing that was canceled was our limo int the city and we received a refund immediately.

Also, just be aware that some guests might not come. Because of the media hype of the blizzard we had alot of cancelations, however, we also had alot of people we werent able to invite or that had initially said no call letting us know that they had a dress'tux in the closet and could be there in half an hour if we needed them so we stil had a full house and a wonderful time!

i hope this helps!!

ETA: I also only booked vendors who didn't have to travel an unreasonable distance in poor weather, for their safety and so that they wouldn't cancel because of the weather and driving conditions. Also like another bride said our limo company offered a free upgarde to a larger SUV in case it snowed. We did not purchase wedding insuarance, i wasn't even aware of the insurance or what kind of coverage it could provide.
