My daughter is having a winter wedding. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to decorate the outside of the house, since there will be no flowers. Thanks for any ideas!

Re: winter wedding decorations
Just a word of caution....I would only put a bow on the house (take it down when you leave) because at my older son's wedding 4 years ago his wife's parents decorated the outside of the house really beautiful, but as soon as we all left for church the house was robbed. It seems that people look out for houses that are decorated for weddings because they know that as soon as everyone leaves the house will be empty for a long time and then they go to town taking your belongings.

Hello, Thanks sooo much for the information! I would have never thought about that, but it makes perfect sense.

Neither did we, but when they got home and realized what had happend, called the police they were told that it is a very common thing. It is done all the time by thieves. Sad isn't it that you can't make everything look pretty for your daughter because you have to worry about lousy, mean people taking your precious belongings. Good luck with your wedding.....my son's wedding is now just 3 weeks away. Very exciting!

Yes, it is really a shame. I guess that I could just decorate like I usually do,...maybe a few more fake poinsettas from Michaels, etc. I'm also considering telling my neighbors for watch out for anything strange. We also have a dog, and an alarm system, so maybe it will be a less desirable house to hit. You must be getting so excited! Where is your son having his wedding? Congratulations!

The ceremony will be at Regina Pacis on 65th Street in Brooklyn and the reception is going to be at Russo's on the Bay in Howard Beach. I am very excited this is my second son getting married, but still just as exciting and it is even more special of an occasion because Peter spent a year in Iraq in the army. My FDIL planned the wedding by herself with the help of her parents, myself and my older son. This really is going to be a happy, happy time.

I've heard good things about Russo's. We're in the middle of the Island (near Port Jefferson). My daughter is having her reception at the Watermill. Her ceremony will be at our church, St. Louis DeMontfort, in Sound Beach. How long has your son been home? I am so proud of all of them. I just hope that it ends soon and that we can have them all come home again. Tell your son, thank you for everything.

Re: winter wedding decorations
Peter has been home a year already. He landed back in the US the night before mother's day 2006. We all knew he was traveling that Saturday and when my older son and his wife took me out for dinner for Mother's Day I kept my cell phone on right on the table because I knew that as soon as he landed either Nina or he would call me. Well we were back in my home when at 10:45 PM my phone rang and Nina was asking how dinner was and then said 'Well Happy Mother's Day, Peter just landed.....he is on US soil.' Needless to say everyone smiled and then cried. A friend of his from Iraq will be a groomsman too and I can't wait to give him a hug and kiss too.

What a GREAT Mother's Day gift! That was probably the best gift anyone could receive! I'm so glad that he came home safe and sound. I literally cry whenever I read about the war, and I always pray that it's over soon.

It was a great present. I cry too whenever I read/hear about the war and all the young people being killed over there. I take it personally because I know how the mother's of those kids are feeling just having them there and then to receive that information is just devastating......it breaks my heart.
