Wish me luck!!!
You teachers will understand my anxiety about this...I'm having my first observation by my department chair on friday! I'm a little nervous because this is my first year at this school and my first observation as a full-time, tenure-track teacher! So it's a lot of pressure. I meet with her tomorrow morning for a pre-observation meeting to discuss the lesson and then she is going to come in and observe on Friday....
Wish me luck!!!

Re: Wish me luck!!!
Best of luck....very nerve wracking. I'm sure you will do awesome. Try to get as much of a feel for what she is expecting/hoping to see from you tomorrow and I would mention to the kiddos beforehand. Last year someone from my grad school came in to observe & the kids were ANGELS b/c they wanted Ms. D to do 'super' at her school. :)What type of lesson are you planning?

Re: Wish me luck!!!
well, they are starting with a spelling quiz (lots of fun i know)but then i'm going to break them up into groups of fur to discuss some quesions from the chapters they were to ave read this week. they were given all of the questions on monday and have been working on them all week. (they're good kids and i know they've done the reading and the questions)
in groups, they will then have to write the responses on those large 'post-its' and present them to the class.
i'll close with a question that will be my 'Aim' for the lesson.
What do you think?
Any suggestions??

Re: Wish me luck!!!
Awwww nothing like support from the man. What grade is it?
Have they done much group work yet this year? Are they familiar with their groups? You'll be going from group to group answering q's?
Do you have a signal for them to quiet down?
It sounds great, although the noise level may get a bit high.
Best of luck!!!

Re: Wish me luck!!!
Good luck - I know how nervous you must be.Here's a pointer though, that my principal brought to my attention during an observation.
When you have students work in groups - what do you do with the groups that finish first? You should always make sure to have an additional activity handy so they don't get bored, and in turn make noise or just twiddle their thumbs. Even if it's just taking a characters name, writing it on the board and seeing how many words they can create from the letters. Something simple that will keep them occupied while they wait. Just a suggestion...
You'll be great!

Re: Wish me luck!!!
My best observations have always been unannounced...since I don't overanalyze the lesson...so I am a supported of doing what you usually do...as for groups...if you discuss anything afterwards...I make them go back to their original seats so that they are in a more focused mode...and it is a good way to waste a little time...
also make sure that each student has a role in the group...I usually have them elect a leader, secretary/recorder, reporter (presents to class)...sometimes an ambassador, an advisor...if I need more roles
