Re: With 9 days left..this takes the cake!!
If it were me, I would not let it bother me. However, I would remember that I do not have to afford these people much consideration in the future.
Here's is a thought: get pregnant and announce it at their wedding.

Try not to let it bother you....its your day! Honestly yes it would bother me...my brother proposed to his GF the week before my shower...I was pissed....but all of the things I was worried about such as her stealing my thunder...didn't happen
I got engaged the day before my cousins wedding. I tried to hide the ring that day but everybody noticed it anyway. It did not in any way take away from the bride or the groom or their day. JMHO but you would be the star of your day even if he got on his knees at your reception and proposed. Don't let it bother you.

I would be so pissed!!! But I was at a wedding where one of the guests proposed to his girlfriend on the dance floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We almost died just watching this. So don't feel so bad-it could always be worse.

Not to rain on your pity party, but seriously, people are supposed to plan their engagements so that they don't happen to close to their future brother-in-law's wedding? I mean, it's one thing to be mad if someone gets engaged AT your wedding, that's totally stealing your thunder, but they got engaged over a week before. Why not? How does it make your wedding less special? Just be happy for them and welcome your soon to be BIL (or whatever he will be) into the family!
Of course people are to plan their engagements, weddings and any future pregnancies around every other family members or friends wedding. Didn't you know. I'm sure it's in the 'wedding planning etiquette guide' on like page 183.
Seriously though, do not stress over this. Nobody can steal your joy unless you allow it. Pick up a congratulations card, sign it, drop it in the mail and finish up your seating chart

I am seriously shocked by some of the ladies reactions to this....WHY in the world should anyone be upset or think that it was selfish of someone else to propose 9 days before a wedding????
Just how does that exactly rain on a bride's parade???
This is the ONLY negative thing about this site: seeing so many normally intelligent rational women get bent about how other people act!

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

I am going to have to agree with this.
When we are all wrapped up in what I call 'wedding world' we forget that the rest of the world isnt in it. This is the general feeling I get when I have seen brides 'complain' of a pregnant bridesmaid that they dont want in their bridal party because it may ruin their pictures.
I was fortunate to be a guest at Jen's (Jen2999) wedding where she most unselfishly gave up a few minutes of her spotlight as a bride to honor the upcoming wedding of Kathleen (beautyq115) by playing their wedding song. It was a beautiful moment. She didnt have to do it, but I thought it was a very classy thing to do. Know that as the bride, nobody can steal your spotlight on your wedding day. I know that after that moment, everything was back to the bride and the groom.
I am not going to invalidate your feelings as they are very real to you and if you hurt, then you hurt.
Perhaps if you can look at your wedding as a celebration and creation of family and love and people coming together. These people will be your family.

Goldi... THAT is perfect. You are EXACTLY right - regardless of whether you agree with someone or not, they have the RIGHT to feel how they feel.
I wouldn't be upset about the engagement of someone else close to my wedding. I would be excited for them. But that is ME. That is how I would fee. To chastize someone and get down on them for being upset about something that you don't 'get' is just mean.
The girl came here to vent. She didn't scream at her FSIL or demand she give the ring back or throw her out of the wedding party. She came HERE - to a virtual community of people that she has grown to care about - and said 'Man, I just feel awful about this.'
I have had my little pissy fits about things that I probably shouldn't be upset over - and generally I will figure that out on my own. But while I am upset I am pretty much looking for support, not for people to knock me down. We are ALL entitled to our little pity parties now and then. If you don't want to sympathize, empathize or just offer encouragement - don't join the party.

I know how you feel. I got engaged while my 2 only siblings were pregnant so the family was more excited about the arrival of the upcoming babies than my engagement....then just about a month after we are engaged my FH's sister-in-law gets pregnant...WITH TWINS! Talk about stealing our thunder!!! So then his family dropped the excitement for our wedding and only cared about the twins...which were the first grandchildren in my FH's family so it was like the birth of the Messiah or something! We haven't caught a moment of excitement at all....just a month after the twins were born and we thought everyone would now give us our moment...my FH's dad was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer that's spread to his lungs and brain. So now obviously I am not looking for any excitement from anyone b/c we are all just so sad about FH's dad. We just hope he makes it til our big day!!!
But I do feel your pain - I feel like no one has ever had the chance to be excited for us or our wedding. And now I feel like our day is just going to be sad anyway b/c of FH's dad...either people will be sad to see him so sick or people will be sad b/c honestly we don't even know if he'll make it til then. It's hard that what is supposed to be such a happy time has turned into such sadness.
OK sorry for bringing you down...but yes I totally feel your pain!!!

I had a friend who's FSIL got engaged the night before her wedding, just before the RD...she was really PO'd...but like the other girls said...it's 9 days away! Everyone is going to be so over that in 9 days and be focused on you and FH! Enjoy your day!!

Re: With 9 days left..this takes the cake!!
Thanks for all of your support, to most of you who have given it I didn't post this for any other reason than to 'get it off my chest', like many of all the girls here do..I thought that's what we were here for. Was I wrong? Anyway, I guess I should've mentioned that FH and I haven't gotten a break yet..His brother asked his wife to marry him 'out of the blue', the same month that FH was planning on asking me!!!Everyone knew OUR engagement was coming..Fh had been saving like crazy!!! It seems as though someone from his family always attempts to steal our thunder, since we got engaged Another thing is that his sister and her bf have been dating for 5 years, and he had asked my FIL's 6 months ago for permission!!!!!!! So, I think he COULD HAVE waited 1 more week I'm sorry, but to me that's just rude!

Re: With 9 days left..this takes the cake!!
well let me put my two cents in as this was my exact situation. Only difference is I was the sister who got engaged. My FH proposed on July 2 and my sisters wedding was July 23 (last year)....a little more of a difference but not much. I never really asked FH why he didnt wait or anything but I guess I never thought about it. My sis was AWESOME about it. We had the families get together for a BBQ only 2 weeks before her wedding and she was there...happy as can be for me!! To add to it she (her own choice) decided to have the DJ make an announcement and offer congratulations to us at her reception. She also called a few times from Hawaii to get the update on halls we went to see. It was def. a happy time for both of us that we will remember celebrating toegther!!
