I was asking one of the banquet managers from a RH that I met with. He said that you have to feed them unless they sign a contract that says that they dont want food.

Only because they may give the Maitre de if they arent fed. Supposively it has happened before but it really depends on your vendors.

I would as your BM and see what he/she says. They have dealt with this question and will give you an honest answer,

And they are there all day with you for so many hours...when do they have time to leave and eat

As much as it bothers me that I'm already paying them a lot of money, tipping, and the fact that I don't get a meal provided by my job I will be feeding my vendors. None of them has even asked.

we fed all our vendors whether it was in the contract or not

ditto, the hall knew who would be there and included them in the price

Yes, you feed all of your vendors who will be at the reception unless they request not to be fed. (You should ask them if you don't know)

Your officiant doesn't count as a vendor meal -- if you invite the officiant to the reception, s/he is a regular guest.

they will be with you all day, its rude not to provide them with food.

Thie topic came up months ago on the '06 board. The response to feed the vendors was overwhelming. Think about it . . . your photographer and videographer are with you for at least 10 hours. Could you work for 10 hours without eating??

Once you've made the decision to feed those vendors, do you really want your DJ (and any other vendor) to see them eating and know you made a conscious choice not to feed him??

I didn't notice my vendors eating (my vendor meals were free and I think my DOC organized how many meals but I'm not sure) so if you're not clear who's eating and who's not it might end up that a vendor eats and you're charged after for it or a vendor expected to eat, and the meal isn't available. If you don't want confusion on your wedding day, which trust me, you don't want to deal with, clarify ahead of time who wants to eat and who doesn't.

I had the attitude that if you treat your vendors well they'll do their best for you. We even told our vendors that they were welcome to get drinks from the bar if they wanted. After the fact our band told us our wedding was incredibly fun and they were so happy to play there and I'm sure some of that was that we were really calm and welcoming to them.

You should ask them. When I inquired with my photo, he indicated he prefer a cash tip instead and said he would bring a sandwich.

nobody asked but we still fed everyone. my BM even set up a table just for the vendors in the back of the room behind closed doors where they could sit and eat and enjoy. i think its just the nice thing to do.
