Wording help... this is a doozie!!

Hi Girls... I'm hoping someone can suggest some wording for 2 invitations that I'm about to send out (after I've sent every other invitation and after many discussions with my FH)...
SO here goes...

My FH's parents and one sibling are estranged... But we've decided to send them an invitation because we don't want to ever look back and regret that we didn't (They haven't been involved in our lives in over 7 years...)

In the invitation we'd like to add a little note stating that we're not looking for a gift (yes, that's what they'll think) and that their presence would be their present to us. However, I don't know how to write it nicely and succinctly . I think there are too many emotions involved for me... So, I'm turning to you for some guidance.

Thanks in advance.

That is tricky. I'd try to keep it short and sweet. Maybe something along the lines of 'We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us. Your presence on our special day is the best gift we could hope for.'

Good luck!

Maybe add 'and the only gift we would expect from you'? Just to make it really clear that you aren't expecting anything else from them? I sent one invite like that.

hmmmmm.....i think i'd leave out anything in regards to a gift. maybe if you focus on that you sincerly want them to be there, and hope you can make it, would be enough?? i dunno, they might get insulted with the gift mention? just a thought.

good luck!

Thanks for all of your words of wisdom! I really appreciate them. The mention of the gift is fine because we were specifically told that if we were to invite his parents they would assume it's for a gift (straight from his dad's mouth...)

This is an unfortunate situation and I can't seem to get this right. :(

From the sounds of it, your darned if you do and darned if you don't. I've dealt with people like that, and I know from experience that it helps to keep the wording neutral. Otherwise, they will find a way to take offense (even where none was intended).

The important thing, though, is that you and FH know in your hearts that your intentions are pure. If his relatives choose to find offense, that is their problem, not yours. No matter what, don't let their sour grapes put a damper on your day.

Thanks Meg, I needed that boost today.
You're completely right! Our intentions are completely pure. We just want peace and happiness in our families.

You girls are the best. I wish I would have found this site last December!
