So - I work in a company that is pretty close knit - there are a lot of us, but I've been here for 7+ years and have really good relationships with many people here - one of my co-workers is actually one of my BMs.
Who is appropriate to invite from work? Do I invite all of my bosses, all of my direct teams?
any guidance would be splendid

I'm in a very similar situation. I've been with my company for 12 years and get along with everyone. One of my co-workers is one of my BM too!!!
I basically invited all the partners (7 of them) and their wives. Then the supervisor of a department I work with, and co-worker wise I basically cut it off this way - If I hang out with you outside of work, you're invited; if I've never hung out with you after work, no invite.

I didn't invite many people from the office. I work in a mid-size office, but a very small dept. I only invited my boss (who is also a friend), the big boss (boss' boss) who probably won't come and then a close office friend. It was hard, but I think people understand. There are a few office people on a B list, but I don't think we'll get there.
