Work Related Question
Okay, so a few weeks back, a open posting came out for a cushy position that pays about six grades higher than what I'm making. A co-worker (friend) mentioned the position (along with a few others) but this one worker was very enthusiatic and excited about the position. I have a sort of loyalty policy thing with my friends (especially ones that I respect highly) and I know how much she hates her current position, so I didn't look into it. After a few days, I was like 'Why not?? I work hard too and need a change' so I applied but asked the hiring manager if he could please not disclose my application to anyone. Well, he did and now co-worker friend is upset/mad at me because she feels I should have said something. I didn't want her to think I was stealing her thunder or competing or whatever. Plus, it was a very personal decision to apply and I didn't want to spread it around. I also know that there is a candidate in the pool that is waaayy more qualified than either of us, so it's more like I wanted to explore other opportunities within the organization. I feel like anything I did with regard to this friend was going to get me into hot water. If I told her of my intentions, she would have been uncomfortable and the fact that I didn't tell her didn't work in my favor. I can't win for trying![]()
