Work related: What would you do??

Work related: What would you do??

So I'm pretty much all set to hang up my hat at work... After the 26th I don't have to be there anymore bc I won't owe them any tuition $$$. I have a few interviews lined up and honestly it is a pain to come up with excuses everytime I need to leave early and next week I'll have to do it twice. The tough thing is I'm only looking for work in the city and right now I'm out in Melville so I can't exactly just take a long lunch and do these interviews mid-day...

Sooooo do I not give notice but come clean with the boss and tell him I'm looking and deal with him treating me like cr@p for the remainder of my time there.

Just give notice and tell him my last day will be the 26th and then if I'm not around bc of interviewing it's kind of expected but risk not having a job after the 26th. (FH said this would be fine but I don't want to be out of work for toooo long)

Or say nothing and just keep coming up with excuses? The only thing with this is I risk him telling me I can't leave early once he gets sick of it and then I have an issue.

1. Take a day off and schedule 3-4 interviews.

2. Keep leaving early. Blame it on the wedding (makeup trial, hair trial, etc)

Please DO NOT NOT NOT leave your job without another one lined up. Not in this economy. Even if you can live on Randy's salary... It's not worth the stress on top of the wedding.

Dont say anything...not yet. I'd just keep leaving early. Come up with maybe a medical excuse

i would just try coming up with excuses as long as you can..if you leave without having a job lined up you have no clue how long you could be out of one..

although i wouldnt mind having mid-day play dates

but its also emotionally taxing being out of work and not being able to find a job

on the flip side, if you're having all these interviews thats a really good thing, so hopefully you'll find something soon

I definitely wouldn't leave without having something else lined up. You stuck it out for this long. Honestly I'd just keep trying to leave or try scheduling the interviews on your days off. Otherwise if worse came to worse do you have sick time that you could use? You could just call in sick instead of trying to jet out of there early. GL!

Yeah you're all right.... I think I really just wanted some time off in between jobs. I have been working NONSTOP 40hours+++ since I was 20 and I think I just wanted a couple of weeks to do literally NOTHING. I guess 7 months before my wedding isn't the time to be irresponsible like that. Thanks girls

My days off are Saturdays and Sundays. People aren't going to come in on their weekends to conduct interviews, lord know I don't do it for people!! LOL!!!!

We accrue time so I only have 2 days of sick time accrued, I used one for my interview on Friday and one back when I went to try on that dress in Jersey and I won't get another one until the end of the month. I don't want to start dipping into vacation bc if I don't find something that'll come out of the time I can use for my HM....

i did this last year at my job cause i started setting up interviews (not in the city, on LI), but i still felt so guilty about leaving work early or coming late. i used doctor appts as my excuse and no one really questioned it. none of the interviews worked out and i'm still at my job... but at least i have a job lol. i would advise not quitting your job until you have something definite lined up just cause of the economy and you never know how long it will take to find something else.

I wouldn't leave your job until you definitely have another job lined up - don't tell your boss though that you are looking...

I really only have one piece of advice, no matter what you do DONT leave unless you either have a savings to fall back on or another job lined up.....Ive been relying on my fh's salary since december and it SUX! Its even harder trying to do things for the wedding when I have NO money....

i wouldn't leave without something else lined up. just me though.

would you need notes if you say you were going to the doctor?

dental appointments tend to take multiple visits.

thats a good bet.

If I ask for too much time they'll strat declining it and tell me to make the appointments after hours, plus I have already used all of my accrued sick time and that is what we have to use for Dr's appointments. I can't just leave without it being deducted from somewhere. We don't have flex time so I can't work through lunch and leave early either.

Re: Work related: What would you do??

Ok. I went through this two years ago when I quit a job without having another one lined up. It was actually a sort of similar situation, I couldn't leave work to interview (plus I was working 15-17 hour days) so I was like 'I'll find something better.'

A lot of people looked down on the fact that I would quit w/o having another job (someone said I was 'irresponsible').

I would suggest, like a previous poster said, take a day off (use vaca time) and schedule a bunch of interviews on that day. Then, if you need a second interview w/ them you can tell your boss that you are having some personal medical problems (hopefully he's a guy so he won't ask and think it has to do with 'down there') and take like a half day off on Friday.

Unfortunately, I would use vacation days, b/c chances are you will have a new job by the time your wedding comes along.
