I just got off the phone with a bridal salon to try on wedding gowns and the first thing the woman on the phone says to me is 'You are starting WAYYY to early!' I immedialty became turned off by this because I dont understand why people have to say that! DOes she realize that she just lost a customer and a potential buyer??? I dont get it! Would anyone else me annoyed or am I over reacting?

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
That is sooo rude, I would not go back unless I had to. I went to try dresses on for fun and gave my friends date which is in 2009 cause I could tell the place wouldnt want to bother with me if I said 2010.

Thats so annoying!! I am as nice as most of you and would prob curse these people out... lol... why is it such a problem that you are organized and ahead of the game... its money in their pocket if you use them, who cares if the date is five years from now. :(

I don't think you're overreacting, it's your wedding and you're allowed to do things as early or as late as you want to. The PA i work with bought her dress from BR in Carle Place because she said when she went to the one in Massapequa they were really rude to her. She actually advised me to go to the store in Carle Place because of the issues she had with the women there. So unfortunately you aren't the only they've given a hard time to

No it was Bridal Reflections in Massapequa...I dont want to lie...why is that necessary??? Its really annoying me!
I absolutely REFUSE to use them. 4 years ago as a bridesmaid they were pains in the asses. They never called me to tell me my dress came in but called my SIL (the bride) to yell at her that I never picked my dress up that came in. Ummm....hello???? Was I supposed to call them every single day for months to see if it came in??!! Plus they wouldn't let the 'bigger' girls in the bridal party try the dresses on...they made me model them and I don't appreciate that. They should've been able to try them on
FU Massapequa Bridal Reflections.......you are no Kleinfeld's either. You don't deserve the right to charge people $50 if they miss their appointments or anything like that. You're just an overpriced run of the mill bridal salon.

I called the one in Carle Place...they said that they didnt have a large selection of dresses in the $1500 price range...she said that I should call the one in Massapequa- now I am totally turned off!
You should still go to them, they were just being honest. Its better than them having you try on a dress thats way over ur budget. Go to the one in Massapequa, they are all very wonderful. U wanna talk about being blunt ? Try Kleinfleds. Yikes! You might also want to try Lilettes or Princess Bridals.

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
I am not turned off my the womens honesty in Carle Place- I am turned off by the way that I was spoken to by the one in Mass...Not for nothing but it was like she would be wasting her time if she gave me an appointment. Not only that but when I first called Carle Place...the woman took my name and phone number and said she would call me right back to make the appointment...and 1 1/2 hours later...still no call...I had to call again!

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
The same thing happened to me the other day!! I was soooo MAD! I called Amsale in the city to schedule an appointment because there's a few dresses I LOVE and wanted to try them on. Well, after the jerk took all my info and I told him my wedding date he asked me to hold. He comes back on the phone and goes 'We don't recommend you come in until a year before your wedding.' I was so stunned I didn't even know what to say, so I just hung up quickly. I really want to write a letter to them telling them how rude and unprofessional this sales associate was. I will never buy a dress from them now after how I was treated.

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
Thats really terrible! I think these places feel like we are wasting their time- but I have been to a few places who have welcomed me...and told me that now is a good time to be looking!

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
Sorry to crash...
I was engaged for a year and a half, and the first thing I wanted to do was go look at dresses. I had a lot of salons tell me the same thing. And I was completely offended at the time. But this is the deal: If you order a gown early (more than a year before your wedding) lots of brides get 'buyers remorse.' They see other collections that come out or find a better deal elsewhere... then have to unload the dress they've already bought. Also, you're measured when you order the dress. If you order your dress so far in advance and your weight changes dramatically, it's going to make alterations much more challenging (read: expen$ive).
JMO, but if you want to try on dresses give them a fake date, but don't buy anything for awhile. Good luck!!!

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
Granted, I most likely would not be purchasing the dress this far in advance, there's no harm in looking. I understand the whole 'buyers remorse' syndrome but that's really not for a sales clerk to worry about for me. I would imagine most stores to have a no-return policy anyway which is completely understandable. If I happen to change my mind after I purchase a dress, then it's my fault!
It really seems like the only alternative to do is LIE about your wedding date which is just so ridiculous. But bottom line though, no one deserves to be treated rudely!!

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
i actually lied when i first tried on dresses...i gave them a date for october this year and then after finding my dress and it was ordered i told them 'it was too much to do this year so we moved it back until may of next year' never had a problem.

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
You live in NYC we are like the fashion capital of the world ...... there are so many stores thatim sure you will find a beutiful dress .. i suggest gettin out of LI and show in NYC or Bk .... I feel like everyone goes to the same places and all their dresses look alike ... u dont need their rudeness , and if they dont want ur 2010 business then you wont give them the pleasure !!

Re: Would anyone else be annoyed???
I actually went to a few more places today...and I seem to know what I want. But again none of the places that I have gone to made me feel like I was wasting their time...and they were alll wonderful! I just guess that this place felt like they couldnt be bothered because I would be wasting their time. However I have the time now to be looking- because when I go back to work I am not going to have the time that I have now to look...It was their loss!
