Would It Be Wrong To Not Attend Your MOH's Wedding?

Would It Be Wrong To Not Attend Your MOH's Wedding?

I got married last year and booked my mediterranean honeymoon cruise this memorial weekend.

Problem is my friend, and former MOH, is planning to have her reception this year also on Memorial weekend but she has not even booked her reception location yet!!!!

She tells me that she definitely will book something by end of this month.

Realistically speaking, how possible is it to find a place with such short notice?

Second question is, would it be wrong if I decide to leave for my honeymoon before her wedding (assuming she even has a wedding)? Airfare is a few hundred more if I wait until after Memorial weekend because it will be peak summer travel to Europe. :(

Wha'ts a girl to do?

This one is tough. I feel like, if I were your MOH I would be very hurt if you didnt come. In the same breadth, I dont know how in the world she's going to be able to book an entire wedding for May in under 4 months

Why dont you wait and see what happens and if she's even able to book something. If she does book, then I personally would re-schedule my HM and go to her wedding. I think you would regret not being there for her since she was there for you on your special day. Also, whats a few hundred $$ in airfare?? I'm sure she spent a lot of money to be in your wedding. I think you should make every attempt to try to be there. It might be something that she would be very very hurt over.

Another thought: You can go on this vacation anytime, but her wedding will only be ONCE. You'll never have a chance to be there for her wedding again if you miss it.

Honestly....I think ya gotta go to the MOH's wedding...

Mine would never forgive me if I did that.

And honestly, if it were reversed, I'd be really really hurt if she didn't come because of a trip....

ETA: even if she doesnt schedule the wedding for that weekend (if its already booked...), I'd put the HM on hold until I knew that for sure.... and the above poster is right.... a couple of hundred dollars in the grand scheme of things isnt too bad..

if shes in your wedding, and shes your MOH i would definately go. You can always leave for the HM right the next day... JMO

Thanks for your honesty...

I think I would be a simple solution if it wasn't for two factors:

1. She is already married, she's just having her reception this year

2. I would lose the $1200 deposit for my honeymoon cruise if i reschedule

3. I'm abit upset at her for delaying her planning until now, she already knows it takes 6+ months to properly plan a wedding (I did it in 10 months and even felt rushed!), but she hasn't heed my advice and already she's overpaying by a few hundred for her wedding dress to have it rush shipped... Now it's affecting my honeymoon because I can't book airfare until she decides what she wants to do!

I know it's not easy as it seams. :(

I wouid direct with her ... see what happens.. 1200 is alot of $$$$

whoa. thats a big chunk of money...

Did she just spring this on ya? Like a 'Hey, I think I'll have my reception on Memorial day weekend' kind of thing?

I didnt realize she was already married.... I think thats a totally different story.

But I'd talk to her. My MOH would still be super offended...but that's just her. Feel her out.

You'd still lose $1200 just for switching the date of the cruise?? Yikes.

Oh wow! I didnt realize you would loose that much $$$

I would talk to her and tell her your concerns and see what she says. To be honest, thats A LOT of money to loose....my FH would KILL me if I lost that much money over my friend's wedding especially if she's technically already married.

I agree, FH would kill Me! This is a tough one, she is technically married so you did get to be a part of the marriage in a way. If it were were me having my reception and I was her, I would be upset that you werent going to be there just b/c I would want you there but I would never expect you to lose that kind of money.
Good Luck

IMO if she knows you already booked your trip than it's inconsideratre of her to think you would be willing to loose $1200 to be at her reception that she hasn't even booked yet.
I would go on my honeymoon.

I'm sorry that your going through this right now. I would talk to her and explain to her how much money you would loose. I hope she would take that into consideration and plan her wedding later. IMO, if she was truely a good friend she would, but that's just me.

Good Luck!!!

You never have the EASY problem do you? Should I wear pink with white stripes or white with pink stripes? LOL

I would first call the cruise line. I would explain that something has come up and see if there is ANY POSSIBLE WAY to reschedule the cruise without losing more than a small re-scheduling fee. Most places will work with you because life does intervene - weddings, deaths, births - you know the drill.

If they are adament and refuse to budge, then I would sit my MOH down and have a heart to heart. Tell her that you really don't want to miss her reception - but that you really can't afford to flush 1200 down the toilet. Offer to help her plan for a different day - 4th of July weekend or even the weekend BEFORE memorial day.

If she is your friend - and I am sure she is - she will understand.

I agree completely! Do your best to change your plans for your friend without losing the 1200...if its not possible be completely honest with your friend and help her out in every possible way now matter what she chooses.

I would tell your friend that you are going to lose a good chuck of money (which unless she has big pockets) she should understand!
Tell her you would love to go, if it was another weekend. Then let her see the post about the person selling their Oheka wedding date in mid june!
Good luck!

I might be in the minority.. but
If she still hasn't decided on a locale for this ..and since she's married and most likely knows you had this vaca-HM planned.. I would go on your HM and not feel bad at all

I think its really nice of you to even think of trying to accomodate her, but even though you are thikning of her she's not thinking of you.. so enjoy your HM

ok, I will be the odd man out here..why is she trying to book her wedding for a weekend when she knows you ALREADY have your HM booked and waaay at the last minute? It's not like this is just some trip that you have planned

If it was soo important to her for you to be there she should choose another date..otherwise she really has no right to be upset, IMO

I agree!!! If she had already booked her wedding before you booked your honeymoon, I would be mad if I was her but, she has no right to be mad since you booked your trip first!
