Get married on a Monday. We got a really good price offer for a RH on Columbus Day. Its either Columbus Day or a Thursday night which would be about $5 more pp.
What do you ladies think?
TIA

MMM, if it's a holiday weekend- it's tough because a lot of people go away. Thursday night weddings would be better- especially if it's a holiday on Friday where people will be off.
honestly i would not but if its what you have to do to have the wedding you want then do it....but i would suggest sending std's because a holiday weekend or a thursday is something people may have to arrange for ahead of time! good luck with planning either way!

Re: would you...
My brother got married on Columbus Day. If you give people enough advance notice and if they really want to be there they will come. We were the only wedding that day at the Swan Club and the guest turnout was great. If the price is right, I would go for it.

Re: would you...
it depends on the monday. it can be really hard. people like to go away for the long weekends, or just want the monday to unwind. for columbus day, not everyone has off that day. i know the stock exchange is open, so i always have to work columbus day.

Thanks for all of your responses....not sure what we will do yet. The price was so enticing...lol!!!! We are paying for the wedding ourselves so we are definetely on a tight budget!!!
But - we also would have to guarantee 160 people so if some people don't have the day off or if they are away then I should probably consider a more convienent date.
Thanks again!!!!

If the price is right then go for it!!! Either day I think you would be able to meet your minimum if you give guests advance notice.

Re: would you...
I would rather get married on Thursday night than on the Monday of Columbus Day weekend.

I think you have to make the best decision for you and your FH...the truth is any close friend or family memeber I would be there regardless of the day or time.

Re: would you...
We went to DH's cousin's wedding on the Monday of Memorial Day--it was an afternoon wedding. We had a good time but most other people weren't really partying that hard (DH and I were all over the professional photos b/c we were dancing up a storm!) b/c they had long drives home that night to go to work tomorrow....

Re: would you...
if the price works for you then why not? i personally wouldnt mind attending a wedding on columbus day. plus if you send out save the dates in advance, those who dont have off will have enough notice to take off, or not schedule a trip.

Re: would you...
My cousin got married last year on memorial day (it was a Monday). It was fine because most people are off and he got a good deal. But I had to leave early because it was a long drive home and I had to get up early for work

Re: would you...
Since your asking if we would...I wouldn't. I'm not off Columbus day, and not a lot of companies are. If it were Memorial day or labor day, then maybe ok...but JMO, I wouldn't choose Columbus.
What about a Sunday afternoon wedding? Is it that much more?

Re: would you...
Personally, I'd not do it, but it depends. Are most guests from in town? If so, then the travel isn't too much of an issue, and you can do a wedding that ends at like 8 or 9, even 10 p.m. If there are alot of out of towners, it may be harder. We are doing Memorial Day Weekend, and went from Sunday to Saturday night, despite the price difference, because we realized that the day after the wedding, all the out of towners will be hung over or tired, so the extra day works out best. We have ALOT of out of towners, in fact . . . everyone but the MOH in the BP (including us!) are coming from OOT.
Have you run it by friends and family? What do they think?

Re: would you...
I personally wouldn't either, but I know the price may make it tempting; one caveat -- a 160 minimum will be hard to meet for a holiday Monday, unless you are planning to invite TONS of people? I suspect the decline rate would be higher than a weekend invitation, since not everyone is off that day or would be able to take off the following day... And if you end up paying for people who don't show or because you don't make the minimum, you're not really 'saving' $$ at all..
