Re: would you...

I know that people all have issues if a wedding is not a Sat night but, its your wedding. If thats all that fits your budget then do it. I have been to a Thursday wedding and its just like going out for drinks after work but not at a bar!

it depends on the monday. it can be really hard. people like to go away for the long weekends, or just want the monday to unwind. for columbus day, not everyone has off that day. i know the stock exchange is open, so i always have to work columbus day.

ITA... I always have to work on Columbus Day

Personally, I wouldn't do Columbus Day. Not everyone gets off for that holiday. I know I haven't in the last 2 jobs I've had.

dh actually works columbus day and wouldnt want to use a day off of work for wedding day but only bc we had a 2 week HM and he couldnt take other days off so it would be hard.

I would attend a wedding on columbus day though, just not for myself.

IMO, I wouldn't do a Monday or a Thursday, even though you will enjoy it, guests won't, due to work the next day and everything. I would shoot for a Friday evening or a Sunday day if you are trying to save money.

I would do either or, but if you did the holiday weekend, just make sure you send our your STDs so people know to expect a wedding instead of booking a vacation somewhere!! We were thinking about doing the weekend before our wedding because it is also a holiday weekend, but FH said the same thing about people going away.... I didn't see it as an issue, he wasn't so sure.

You know you're crowd. A lot of my FH friends are in Retail so it would be hard because they work. If people work 9-5 they probably have off so they could make it!

My personal feeling deep inside is that guest are given plently of notice and it's a once in a lifetime for you to get married, and most people are give vac/ personal/ sic days off and this is when they should use it. However my FH feels different he thinks it should be at the guest convience, but when you are paying like we are every penny adds up. It's your chosse people will show up, if you have a 160 min make sure you inviting 240 at least. We finally agree on a Sunday night, i was pulling for this, FH was not in favor but it did save us 10pp so it mattered to me.

I thought about it for a second, because 9/1/08 (our 6 year dating anniv) was the Mon of labor day weekend this year, but the timing meant we wouldn't be able to take a honeymoon, since law school had started up again by that point, and we thought it was more inconvenient for our guests.

a lot of times employers don't let people extend 3 day weekends, and we had a lot of OOT guests. Our reception ended at 5pm but we had an afterparty and we had about 25-30 OOTers who stayed over Sunday night and flew back Monday.

I think Mondays are hard, plus it's not really like an extended weekend like a Thurs night is... it really depends on your guests and whether they are OOT and their work schedule. If you give enough notice anyone important will be there, but I'm not sold on the Monday wedding thing yet

we got married on a thurs. at Westbury Manor. The price was much lower. Plus everyone that was important to us was there. We met our minimum with no problem. Although our wedding was in July, so it was easier for a lot of the families we invited since their kids didn't have school the next day. Are you inviting kids to your wedding, because this is something you might want to think about. Otherwise, I think it really depends on where your guests will be traveling from and if you think that most of them will be able to make it on a weeknight.

I would cut my list down to ONLY the people who really matter and have it on a friday or sunday day....thats what i did :) Either way people who WANT to be there will be there on a saturday night or a monday morning.

Do you have a lot of OOTs?

My sister is getting married friday of Columbus Day weekend and 85% of her guests are attending (and a big majority are OOT).
