Would you be mad if you were me??

Original post by beachbum05

Ok, so FH and I have been engaged for over a year. We've also had our date/RH booked for about a year now.

I have a big group of college friends that live down in DC. One of them - a guy - got engaged 2 months ago. We were all excited for him! Yay!!!

I get a frantic call last night from my BM (one of the college friends of mine) who tells me that he picked THE SAME DATE AS ME.

We have a big overlap of friends. I cannot believe he did this. I'm most upset that he would put our friends in the predicament to choose which wedding to go to, ya know?

ugggghhhh! yea- i would def be upset! do you think he realized?

My initial reaction is that his FW is probably the one planning the wedding. She did not go to school with us....so I'm sure she picked the date out.

I doubt he realized it was my date. He's not a spiteful person.

The whole thing just really stinks.

I mean, life will go on. I really don't want to be in the middle of a 'No.....come to MYYYYYYY wedding' thing.

I'll probably just not invite the majority of the overlap (10-15 people). It's just not worth the anxiety and getting upset about.

I just can't believe he did it.

I wouldn't NOT invite people... just gotta see what happens... Oh Bon-a-liscious... I'll have a drink for you tonight

Try and think positive- it will all work out!

Ok, at least its good to know that I'm not overreacting by being upset over it all.

I just don't want to be bridezilla over it and tell him to change his date.

I'm trying my best to be a good sport about it all and just accept it.

Since all of my college friends live in the DC area and he is getting married in the DC area, it would make sense for them to go to his wedding, ya know?

Ughhhhhhh - actually, now I'm getting annoyed about it.

I don't think you're wrong for feeling upset. I would be extremely mad at this person. I would just try to get the invites out earlier than him. I know that sounds a bit crazed but you did pick the date first

Thanks ladies - you guys rock!!!

Hey, maybe its a blessing in disguise.

Lets see - how much would I save if they didn't come....?

$125 x 15 = $1875

What can I get for the wedding that costs $1875?

What a crappy situation. We have a bunch of friends getting married and I keep telling FH to remind all his guy friends of our date because guys tend to not pay attention to these things.

I would hope that they would do the right thing though and encourage people to go to your wedding since you were booked first and they were the ones who made the mistake...

I'd be livid...and you have every right to be upset. Since we're having such a long engagement (or at least what feels like a long one...20 months), I've been petrified that someone we know would get engaged and plan something for the same MONTH, much less the same day!!

I guess I'm most annoyed by his attitude about it.

He was actually LAUGHING about it. He thought it was funny.

I guess I don't just see the humor in it at all.

I just saw that you're thinking about not inviting the overlap.
I wouldnt do that. Just send out the invites and if they don't come, they don't come but at least they know you'd want them there.
I don't know how close you are to those friends, and I'm all for inviting or not inviting whoever you choose, but if you are close you don't want to offend them by not inviting you know?

i'm sorry this is going on. it's nice to see that while you're upset you're kinda going with the flow of it. you're handling it better than i would
