would you be offended??

would you be offended??

Let's say a friend of yours was getting married about a year after you..and all of your vendors you recommend to them starting from flowers to dj to make up person to photographer..they go with someone else they think is 'better for them'

Personally, I would not be offended. I've seen plenty of recommendations from girls on this site, or reviews online, and I've seen them in personally and realized they weren't for me. Everyone is different and need to pick what's right for their budget, for their vision and for them :)

Maybe I am being sensitive but all she talks about is how hers are so much better and it hurts my feelings

Not at all- thats what makes every wedding unique!

I think the vendors we choose have so much to do with personal preference/taste. When I got engaged, one of my friends immediately e-mailed me with a list of the vendors she used. She was thrilled with all of them. Truth be told, they just weren't my taste. It's also possible that she met with some of the vendors you suggested and may not have felt their personalities clicked with hers. What makes one person happy, doesn't necessarily elicit the same response from another.

You don't want her wedding to be exactly like yours.

5 of my gf gt married before me in the last few years and they all recommened their vendors to me and I didn't go with any of theirs, only because what was in my budget and taste was a little different. I hope none of them took offense and I don't think you should either. However I don't think it's right that she is taking negatively about them to you. That I feel is rude.

Since your wedding still hasn't come.. I wouldn't get offended because she hasn't seen their work. But I totally understand how you would feel this way.

I would not be offended for many reasons already stated. Many of my girls are already married and I took all of their suggestions and kept them in mind. Some I checked out, some I did not. I've done hours and hours and hours of my own research to come up with a short list of vendors that I feel will work with what FH and I want for our special day. I would hope my girls would not be /are not offended if I haven't chosen to book with a vendor they have used.

from your original post, i was going to say that you shouldn't really take any offense to it - 'better for them' by no means is an insult to who you use.

but after reading more of your posts and hearing that she's putting down people who you are using, i would have a hard time not being bothered, either.

your friend likely isn't trying to insult you, but she probably isn't thinking about how what she says is being interpreted by you. would you feel comfortable sharing with her your sensitivities so that she's aware of them? i would think the last thing a friend would want to do is intentionally upset you.

this would hurt my feelings too

if she was saying like this other vendor better fits my personality/budget/etc then that's different.

ETA: I also absolutely agree that she should NOT be putting your vendors down or saying hers are 'better'. That sounds pretty childish.

No, I definitely wouldn't get offended. After everything was said and done, I looked at dozens and dozens of vendors. It's not as though they were all 'bad' except for the ones I picked, KWIM? Some would be better for a different style of wedding or get along better with a different personality. That's all!

I would not be offended, but if she is rubbing it in of how hers is better then honestly I would be. It all depends on how she is saying it.

I'm sorry it seems like she's putting you down. I didn't get that from your first post! She's probably just excited that she found people she liked, just doesn't know how to express it in a friendly way!! I wouldn't doubt your decisions or feel bad about your vendor selection. I'm sure they will be perfect for *your* wedding!!

I wouldn't be offended if all she did was choose different vendors, but if she's insulting your choices or telling you that her's is better, I think you should say something to her. Nothing mean, just 'oh, well I'm actually very happy with my vendors, guess we just have different taste.'

If she's being snobbish about hers being the best, chalk it up to the pressure she must feel about living up to how great your wedding must have been! It seems your opinion must be important to her if she has to go out of her way to convince you about the quality of her vendors.

Personally, I would be MORE offended if someone copied all of my selections, than none. Selecting vendors is a very personal process!

Re: would you be offended??

I, personally, am the type of person who will shy away from recommendations from people who are close to me just because I want things to be different... it's not even always a conscious thing. SO I could see how it might hurt to have your advice ignored, but I can see myself doing the same thing... not out of spite or because thye weren't good enough for me but just because then I'd feel like my wedding wasn't entirely a reflection of myself and FH, KWIM?
