My girlfriend called me today to vent, which is fine because what are girlfriends for, right??!! She is married with kids and her husband only hangs out with single guys. She has no problem with that but because they live in a small apartment, there is no place for them to hang out when they come over so they are always hanging out in their cars. They are only listening to music or watching a DVD but it is getting to her. I try and listen and not butt in but I feel this is a '16 year old' thing to do. Something you do when you live at home and have no place to spend with your friends. In one sense, she is glad that he is right in front of the house and not at a strip club or gambling, etc. but it is still bugging her. Can anyone give me some advice. I hate to see her so upset. We have been friends since elementary school. Thanks!

I dont know.. It sounds a little odd, but Id be happy to keep an eye on my FH!! At least hes not at a bar all the time with his friends.. Theres really enough room in the car, but not in the house? That seems so odd to me.. Maybe their watching something they shouldnt be???

I think it is strange for grown men to hang out in their cars.
But would she feel better if he was out of sight? Is she mad about the car thing, or that he hangs out with his friends so much?

I think she is mad that he is hanging out in the car. Sometimes she said he will go and play pool but there is really nothing she really needs to be concerned about (women) because I have met most of the guys and they are harmless-lol! She really does have a very small place so with the kids, it would be too much noise listening to the radio. I just feel bad for her because she gets depressed about it.

Well if he has children - does she feel that hes going out TOO much and not helping enough? My FH goes out about once a week give or take and thats enough for me... If it was more Id be jealous and want a turn either by myself or with him... Does she ever get to go out by herself?

well cant his friends take turns going to each other's house instead of sitting in a car? i mean is it that they only come to your friends place? i really think they should take turns or go out to dinner with his friends.

All of his friends are single and live at home. I don't see her everyday so I only know what she tells me. I think some weeks he 'hangs out' more than others. They are happy otherwise, but this is one of the things that bugs her and I feel I should help her, to a point, as I know this is something she needs to talk to her dh about.

There are girls hanging out too? I would be mad if I was stuck inside with the kids while dh hung out with his friends outside. Especially if there were girls there and I could see them through my window. I don't blame her.

Its not strange if one of them installed a DVD audio system in their car. Those things are cool. Watch a movie inside your car.
I am getting one myself. Just have to get around to ordering it.
Be happy he is only doing that... and not hanging out at the local brothel.

I have to be honest....this would not bother me at all. Is it juvenile? Yes, but what can you do? Boys will be boys. JT and his friends could sit anywhere and be happy to b.s. and watch movies. Is it maybe that she is more upset that he goes out with his friends and not so much WHERE he is with them? That seems a little more feasible.

Well my Hubby had a nice Civic SI and he use to compete with his car and system. He had an alpine flip screen and a dvd player and playstation hooked up to it. After the accident I got his system.
R.I.P CIVIC SI!
I still can't believe he walked away from this. But still he never hung out in his car it was fun stuck in traffic though.
Lori I know Some moron decided when mike was like a foot in front of him that he wanted to make a U-Turn. Car was totaled. It stunk even more cause it was his first new car only a year and a half old.

Maybe she can arrange it so she can take the kids over a friends house one or two nights and then his friends could actually come into their place and watch the movies there.... so its not as '16ish' as it seems??..... I agree with everyone else, it could be a lot worse, she could be trying to hunt him down at bars or something like that.. I would be happy that he was right out front... Thats just me.. and yea I can see that is juvinile... but none of his other friends have places of their own??
Do they have any married couples that they are friends with.... what about your DH/FH? is he friendly with her DH?? Maybe you can get together as a couple... and kinda show him that the married guys are just as cool as the single guys... If not more, because they aren't afraid to entertain as well....

I agree with this.
i agree. also, and this sounds silly, but maybe she can take the kids out for mcdonalds and let him have the house once in a while. not that she should always be the one to give up the space, but i know if i have people over, dh leaves and goes to his parents house so we can have space.

IMO...hanging out in a car and wathing movies IS STRANGE...Yes people buy these things for their cars...but to use it as a place to chill out with your friends...multiple times during the week...WEIRD IMO nad certainly would annoy me. Are there things that would annoy me more yup..but this car pow wow just seems like somethinga 16 year old would do not a grown married man
