Ok someone mentioned to me that on her wedding invites she didn't use a calligrapher.
Instead, she did clear address labels (in script text) which when she put them on the envelopes (stuck them on), matched the color of the envelopes.
Would you consider this tacky looking or just a bride being thrifty? I know it sounds a bit unusual but if it's not considered tacky I might consider it rather than hire a calligrapher.

Doesn't sound tacky to me at all. Y pay extra money for a calligrapher when you can cut costs by using labels.

I know a lot of people wouldn't do it, but I've considered it, people throw that **** away anyway

I don't think it's tacky at all. Just use a pretty font.

In my unlce's wedding they were cutting cost and did the clear lables, I dont like the look of it. I would say if you are having a 'more upscale' wedding then.... go for the real deal, not lables.
I dont want to offend any one,, it is only my opinion.

Why not try printing on the envelopes directly? the only way it doesn't work is if its a coated stock or it has a texture on it. Try it on your printer on some plain envelopes and if you can't swing it then do the labels.
The post office poops on the envelope and it gets thrown out so why spend tons of money!

Re: Would you consider this tacky or just thrifty?
Now I'm really thinking of doing the clear labels.. I just think my family would rather see me doing the calligraphy ( I can do it but I don't want to do it for over 150 invites- if it was like 80 I'd do it..lol)
I might also try printing it on the envelope itself.. but you're right most people just throw it away anyhow..
