Ok someone mentioned to me that on her wedding invites she didn't use a calligrapher.
Instead, she did clear address labels (in script text) which when she put them on the envelopes (stuck them on), matched the color of the envelopes.
Would you consider this tacky looking or just a bride being thrifty? I know it sounds a bit unusual but if it's not considered tacky I might consider it rather than hire a calligrapher.

I did it for my STD's too Comes out even better than labels because labels are smaller than the print you may want

Definetly thrifty-We have received a few wedding invites like this, and they looked very pretty. I didn't even think of the cost of it until I saw your post.

That's what I'm doing... I am not paying anyone all that money when it is that simple. That is very thrifty..

Re: Would you consider this tacky or just thrifty?
I just got a wedding invitation and it was hand written in neat hand writing and I didn't notice it until I read a different post about calligraphy and went back to check it out. My brother knows how to do cal. and will still charge me which is fine. But I think as long as everything is neat and clear and spelled correctly I wouldn't notice anything.

I am totally using clear address labels. I can't see spending all that money on a calligrapher.....when really everyone just opens it and throws the envelope out...you are spending all the money for the postman to look at it!

He's a starving artist!!! And in the next sentence he was talking about how ridiculous the cost of weddings are. I don't even try to understand him.

Re: Would you consider this tacky or just thrifty?
i have to suggest just printing on the envelope - i think it looks more elegant. . .and will actually cost LESS since you dont have to purchase the clear labels.
We did that as a DIY for my cousin's wedding - we ended up crying and drinking about 6 bottles of wine in that week BUT if you want to cut costs here are my suggestions:
Buy some crappy envelopes to practice on. Set up the format on the computer and then just keep changing the actual address.
Start early and only print about ten envelopes each day. We used several different printers and after a certain number it starts to streak - so I think ten is a good number, or if you want to try twenty?. The printer needs to 'rest'
Make sure your print settings are set to 'Fine' or 'Best Quality' it wastes a lot of ink but it is worth it
- I have to say though that in the end with the cost of ink and all that. . . I think you should look into the invitation place printing hte envelopes for you (NOT calligraphy - but much cheaper!)
ETA: clear labels are NOT tacky at all - i am just giving you some other suggestions! good luck!

i dont think I like the look of that because you can see the label. but you could just put the envelopes in the printer and have them printed directly on the envelope. We did that for our Eparty invites.
