Would you ever have your wedding on Sept ember 11th?

Original post by TheFutureMrsM

Last week i was at a very expensive catering hall. The BM was a jerk, but other than that he was saying how some brides would have their wedding on sept 11th if he lowered the price enough.

I didnt think he was telling the truth, but im just curious what your opinions are on getting married on this day

I, personally, would not, however, isn't memorial day supposed to be a day of remembrance for soldiers who have passed on? Lots of people get married on memorial day!

It's true...Memorial Day, Veteran's day, they're looked at as little more than three day weekend...Pearl Harbor day, is not even a day off...they all commemorate horrible things too...sure, for us, they're so long ago...but, to our parents, our grandparents? It's awful to think about, but in 30, 40 years...our grandchildren won't have any more of a connection with September 11, than we do with December 7...

A lot of halls gave discounted rates, in the first few years, I know, to try to alleviate the stigma...
I can't say I wouldn't have...
Any day you pick could be the anniversary of the worst day of someone's life...

i agree with this.. i wouldnt personally get married on sept 11th, but i feel this is very true.

No..there's no way I could ever celebrate that day. It's a day of remembrance for those who lost their lives and gave their lives. I still haven't gotten over it...and there's a lot of people in my family who have lost family and friends.

Two of my cousins bday are on Sept 11th too!

i wouldn't do it---but i honestly think that eventually (maybe 10 years or so) weddings will become popular on that date again; like memorial day, pearl harbor day, veteran's day, etc. have become 3 day holidays weekends for us nowadays.

at some point those other holidays, many years ago, were considered sacred....now we are just excited about days off. i hope i'm wrong--but as the years go by, young ppl who barely remember that day, won't understand how it could affect older ppl

Thats my sisters birthday poor gal.

But no I dont think I could.

i kno a few people with that as their bday

ps...my cuzins wedding was the like a week after the attacks that year...she almost called it off...but we actually had a song that was dedicated and all our emotions were out of wack...people were cryin n huggin happy to be alive. it sounds lame but it was a hard choice for her to keep that day as her wedidng day.

My neighbor had her wedding about a month later... it was featured on the show 60 Minutes because her dad is a fire chief in Brooklyn and they had the Emerald Society play at the reception. It was beautiful....

I answered yes... I would and not for the right price or anything. I wouldn't choose that day on purpose but if it was the only day that worked for us, I would do it. Marriage is a celebration of life and love and I don't think it's disrespectful to celebrate on that day.

I agree. Most people our age don't give a second thought to having their weddings on Memorial Day or Pearl Harbor Day, and those days were meant to commemorate tragic events where many people lost their lives as well. Now they're just holidays and days off.

At this point I wouldn't have my wedding on 9/11, it's still too raw as many of our friends and family lost loved ones that day and FH himself had to run from the buildings and dive for safety in a garage as it came crashing down, and he lost many co-workers as well. But in a few years, it will just be another day, unfortunately like the other 'holidays'.
