Would you ever have your wedding on Sept ember 11th?

Original post by TheFutureMrsM

Last week i was at a very expensive catering hall. The BM was a jerk, but other than that he was saying how some brides would have their wedding on sept 11th if he lowered the price enough.

I didnt think he was telling the truth, but im just curious what your opinions are on getting married on this day

hmm, on one hand, I guess it shouldn't matter b/c its just another day and we shouldn't put our lives on hold- ya know, like the 'don't let them stop us' moto,

but, is is a day of mourning for a lot of people, expecialy in our area and so many people lost loved ones that day that I think it would be sad for people to celebrate on that day. (and kinda insensitive for a bride and groom to ask ppl to celebrate your day on that day because you are saving $)

So I wouldn't do it just for that reason.

Maybe if you want to commemorate the loss of a loved one on tht day or something. I know wome people purposly get married on the anniversary of someones death to change the date to a happy celebration and a celebration of their live

ETA, I have heard of RHs giving better prices on that date, but there is obviously a reason for that, so thre is your answer

I completely agree....

My dogs b-day is on 9/11 and we won't even celebrate that. We celebrate his b-day on the 12th.

I just do not think that day is for celebrating ANYTHING. I think it is for remembering and mourning

I, personally, would not, however, isn't memorial day supposed to be a day of remembrance for soldiers who have passed on? Lots of people get married on memorial day!

It's true...Memorial Day, Veteran's day, they're looked at as little more than three day weekend...Pearl Harbor day, is not even a day off...they all commemorate horrible things too...sure, for us, they're so long ago...but, to our parents, our grandparents? It's awful to think about, but in 30, 40 years...our grandchildren won't have any more of a connection with September 11, than we do with December 7...

A lot of halls gave discounted rates, in the first few years, I know, to try to alleviate the stigma...
I can't say I wouldn't have...
Any day you pick could be the anniversary of the worst day of someone's life...

I wouldn't at all. Too many bad memories of what happened. I almost lost my mother that day.

Meanwhile, Memorial Day I would consider because my birthday usually hit that same week or on that actual day. This year it was the day before Memorial Day.

even being as cheap as i am i wouldnt.....i wouldnt want to have my wedding day over shadowed by that tragedy. Plus i wouldnt want myself and my guests thinking of anything bad on my wedding day!

absolutely not. That is a day of mourning for our entire country.....even if you didn't lose someone, your life changed that day, and I wouldn't want people to feel obligated to be at my wedding on a day like that.

ditto

i wouldn't b/c i think that day shouldn't be messed with. it's a day of remembrance, plus i wouldn't want to offend anyone that i would invite to a wedding on that day who lost someone and expect them to be happy ya know.

there are so many other days, that one is better left alone JMO

Absolutely not. I don't even like making appointments for anything that day. It's something that's been very hard for me to get over.

NEVER. in fact.. we chose to not even have the wedding during the entire MONTH of september for that reason alone.

but after I think about it, it would be very wierd....every september 11th has this really depressing aura too it...I don't think anyone would really be able to enjoy that day...I don't know...I guess i'm undecided, I can't say I wouldn't have my wedding on that day and I can't say that I would..
