Just curious, with all the talk about terrorism... would anyone get married on Sept 11 if it's on a Saturday night?
I read about a bride who actually did this in 2004 'cus she got a great great deal on that date...

I went to a wedding on 9/11 2 years ago but it was out of state in the mountains of GA - not in NY. I cant imagine being from NY and getting married on that day -- I didnt lose anyone but its a reminder of a very scary day for all of us that live here

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a wedding on Sept 11th and I would attend a wedding on that date, although I would definitely feel a little sadness inside thinking about what it's an anniversary of. I wouldn't have my own on that day because of the sad reminder. I wouldn't want my guests to feel sad by thinking about all the people who died on that day; I just want them to have a carefree, fun time at my wedding.

my step-nephew was born on 9/11/01, so for me it can be a joyous day.

My neighbor did that and broadcast how it was such a great deal to everyone.
Personally, I feel that it is disrespectful to celebrate on that day and I wouldn't wanted to have that day also be remembered as my wedding day.
I always think of that wedding whenever anyone brings up this topic

A friend of mine got married on 9/11 2 years ago but it was mainly because it was the only date their church had available until the following year. And mind you her DH is a cop.
Personally, I would debate on it. As for anyone else, I wouldn't knock anyone if they chose that date.

I thought about this some more and read some more responses. My answer will always be 'NO' but I've realized more now why. 'replacing' that dreadful day with a 'joyous occassion' is NOT the answer. As a matter of fact, I think it is a terrible solution. That day needs to be remembered for what it was. The people we lost need to be remembered for who they were and how their lives were taken. Covering that day up with a celebration IMO is a bad idea. I am not saying to spend the day mourning, but I dont believe celebrating is appropriate either. My FILs anniversary is on 9/11/82. They no longer celebrate their anniversary on that day. Marriage is a wonderful thing, but sometimes in life there are bigger things that need to remain recognized, and as Americans it is important that we hold that day very close and respect it. There are 364 other days of the year to hold a wedding, there will ever only be ONE 9/11. I believe now, and even 10 years from now, 9/11 will be a day that many americans find too hard to handle. Most dont want to get out of bed on that day, nevermind attend a wedding. But its JMO
