Would you invite a person like this to your wedding?

Would you invite a person like this to your wedding?

Ok, will try to make this brief:

The mother of FBIL'S friend has been trying to solicit an invitation to our wedding since we got engaged last year.

As I said FBIL and her son are good friends.
My FMIL and her are friendly, not the best of friends, but they have gone shopping together on many occasions.

This woman asked FBIL to tell us to invite her to the wedding. I , of course thought she was rude and said to FH and FBIL hell no.

Lately she has been inviting us to church and being more friendly than ever. On Sat she had a BBQ at her house and invited us. I did not go, but FH did. I was annoyed- I said the only reason she is doing this is so she can get an invitation. He then says, we should just invite her.

I think not.

Thoughts??????

Put her on the 'B' list??

I agree with Lunatrek, she definitely sounds like a candidate for the 'B' list!

I would want to ask why she so desperately wants to be invited to your wedding. Do you know? Is is a valid reason?

Then I would ask if you had the financial situation to dictate it. If you can put her on your list without it really affecting your budget, I say go for it, provided she has honorable intentions. But if you can't afford it, leave her off.

What does your FMIL think?

My FMIL insisted we invited the mother of a friend of the family too. We put her on the list bc everyone else includes her. I don't know her from a hole in the wall and FH barely knows her. But if FMIL thinks it's that important, we'll go for it.
FMIL is also upset I did not invite the woman to my shower. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HER! It's not that I dislike her. I don't know her at all. I'm sure she's a very nice woman. Her son is a nice guy. But there were people I wanted there that I couldn't invite, I certainly wasn't going to invite someone I didn't know...

FMIL could care less if we invited her. My FIL'S have given us no dictates in terms of inviting people.

I think this woman just wants to go to a free party.

I am on a budget, but I can swing it. I just think it is rude and pathetic to say the least.

Oh I agree, certainly rude - but maybe she doesn't have the social know-how? Ultimately it's your decision, of course. I'd probably just want to leave her off simply bc she's so adamant about going. But it's up to you.

How does the friend feel about his mom invited and being there at the wedding. I would invite her only to keep peace.

I think everyone is aware we are on a budget and we cannot invite everyone- she is the only one who seems oblivious to the fact.

Alina, the friend of FBIL is not even invited. It is only family and OUR close friends.

Ok, so if the friend of FBIL is not invited, and your FMIL doesn't care, then don't invite... She may be upset, but tough...

Kysha you said it right there. You aren't inviting FBIL's friend why on earth would you invite the mother?
And secondly why would you invite FBIL's friend? Is he Winston's personal friend other than his brothers? If not, no way across the board. People got some set of pelotas man. I don't know where they get them from.

Shame on me, I just assumed you were inviting FBIL's friend. If you aren't even inviting the friend, I wouldn't invite her. Wow. She stinks!

i would say if the friend isn't invited then there is no need to invite the mother...

I would put her on the B list and if she can't go...oh well. But maybe she just doesn't get out much or have many friends to socialize with? Or just genuinely likes you and your FH and wants to come to the wedding? I thinik that if that was the case, she could have done it different - flat out asking (and asking her son or friend to ask you...even worse) was just wrong.

I had two people ask for invitations. One is a good friend of my FH's cousin (she's like 'part of the family'..ok..but their family, not my FH's!) and actually, a cousin of mine who I have not seen in 20 years. I was going to invite her but my dad said not to bother and now he's changed his mind. Grr!
So he called her and says that she asked for an invite before he mentioned that he even wanted her there. So I totally sympathize with you!!!

I hope it works out in the end - I know I'm not going to be able to do a thing about the relatives but I really don't want this other person at the wedding!

All I have to say is STICK TO YOUR GUNS, and to your original decisions.
We had quite a few wannabee invitees that pulled this crap on us.
Everyone wants to party at other's expense.

If she were close to you, she' be invited.
