a video screen showing the reception throughout? I am thinking of cancelling some options but need to replace with something else. Do you think this might be too intrusive?
I am also thinking about the photo montage, but am not sure that I would want this (I have too much going on time wise during the reception.)

sounds interesting. my only fear is that it might be distractin from dancing and what was going on at the reception, but i could be wrong! (wouldn't be the first time-haha!)

DH's cousin had the video screen and we hated it. But, the bride was also a ditzy idiot. She was constantly fiddling with her veil and playing with her hair. I guess she thought she was being funny, but she kept doing it and we really hated watching it on a big screen.

We're doing the video screen, but keeping it in the corner, so it shouldn't be too intrusive. FH's parents went to a wedding reception that had it and loved it, so we got it.

No. Too impersonal. Its not a rock concert, but an intimate gathering. Right? IMO

I agree.. it seems like that may distract your guests... JMO I have heard good things about the video montage.. my FSIL is doing this at her wedding.
I am sure whatever you decide will be great!
good luck

Actually, I haven't heard very good things about it. I've heard that it can sometimes make people feel awkward seeing themselves on it and that they are more reserved because they can actually see how drunk.....er.....I mean......how much fun they are having....JMO

glad to hear good things about photo montage - we're doing a short one - 10 minutes - during dinner.
Now, I am nervous about the screen during the wedding. My DJ said he would do digital shots of people dancing and post them on the screen - we want a party, like a really fun, crazy party, but is it going to be too much? Sorry to hijack - I hope I am not - but maybe we can both hear feedback on this!!

I wouldn't do the video screen. I've seen it, and it's just kind of silly (JMHO). We had made a 12 minute video montage for my parents' 30th wedding anniversary party at the Watermill, and the catering hall set up the screen right before we needed it, and then took it away- it worked out really well that way. The guests really liked it also. Since it was a small party (about 50) of family and good friends, most of them were in the pics.

It's good hearing these other points.
I want this so bad...I wanted the photo montage during dinner and even the shots from cocktail hour. I never really thought about how having pics or video on the screen might make others feel. I love being on camera....but maybe it would be intrusive? I'll have to think about that!
But I do love the photo montages. It kills me how expensive they are tho-I made one for FH and we watched it the other night. Just as good if not BETTER than the demos I've seen.
I wish I could just rent the plazmas from someone! :(

depends on the size of your wedding. I wouldn't do it for a 200 person wedding. However, most weddings I've been to have had 400+ guests and I've seen it at a couple of those and it was great. It helps tie in the whole party. But I don't think it's necessary for a smaller party.

I am not into the screen (JMO)...
I guess I am kind of a plain girl and I am not into all of these add-ons....

I had been to two weddings that had them. One of the them, the video was too long. (They did the photo montage of baby pics, their relationship etc) The second one though they played during dinner and they played shots of the bride getting ready..him getting ready...the ceremony....and it was a nice touch because those were pictures we would probably not see afterwards.....

Hmmm... maybe we can ask if they can do this. I am really worried now - it sounds like the consensus is people don't like it.

I made my own photo montage for the Cocktail Hour. I had 120 pictures. There was a picture of each and every person at my wedding on the screen throughout family parties and gatherings etc. Everyone loved it! People don't want to admit it, but they like to see pictures of themselves. I ended it with 10 pics of DH and I.

Whew! FH and I really like the photo montage - so glad to hear people liked it. We may have to talk about the digital shots during reception . . .
