I am in love with an Alvina Valenta gown from her 2005 collection and have finally confirmed that the designer no longer carries the sample (they usually sell it a year after the season is over). I still continue to see the dress in recent wedding photos which leads me to believe that brides actually order the dress without trying it on!
As a sidenote, I have to say that I’ve tried on quite a number of similarly designed dresses that all look awesome but this one just won’t get out of my head (and heart!). I know that in the end, whatever dress I choose that isn’t this one will still look good but I don’t know what to do!
What would you do? Would you let it go or bite the bullet and order without trying it on?

If you tried on something similar...I say GO FOR IT! You said you can't let this one out of your head so you definitely should order it! Good luck! If you hadn't tried on a gown similar...I wouldn't suggest it. Go for yours!

i would say no because you could love the way a dress looks but not the way it looks ON you. this happened to me.. looking at pics in a magazine i thought the dress was beautiful but on me it did not flatter me at all.... that is JMO!

I would not order a dress with out trying it on. You never know and once you order it that is it, you own it.

Personally I would not. It is such a large non returnable item.

I wouldn't. I tried on a few gowns that I loved in the stores and actually hated them on.

Re: Would you order your gown without trying it on?
Probably not. I found this dress I absolutely love in a magazine a few years ago when my sister was planning her wedding. I doubt they make it anymore but I will check with the designer and if they don't, then I will just have to find something else I like. I would be too nervous that if I order it and it doesn't look good, I'm stuck with it. Good Luck.

I would be very nervous to do that. It may look great in pics and on other brides but what if you put it on you and you find certain things about it that just don't work for you?

Yeah I agree. I mean most of the dresses I try on are almost exactly the same but some of the detailing is so different that maybe it won't look good on me. Or I won't like it...
Maybe after work I'll post a picture of me in one of the dresses I did try on and then the photo of the Alvina Valenta dress and then you guys can decide if I should go for it.
Until then, I'm going to be stalking girls that just wore it for their wedding Just kidding.

If you tried on a gown similar to it and said 'Well I love it, but I wish it had xxxxxx' and the dress you can't find a sample of does have it, then I'd say go for it! I've heard stories that a bride did this and hated the dress, but on the other hand, I've heard stories where the bride did this and LOVED her dress. Worst case scenario, you have to sell it and you make some other bride's dream come true.

I would definitely NOT order my gown without trying it on. A dress may look nice in a picture but in person you may not like it as much or it may not flatter your body like you would want it to. It is always best to try on a dress before buying; a wedding gown is very important and you don't want any regrets.

I wouldn't. But if you know that is 'the' dress then take the chance. But the choice is really up to you.

Re: Would you order your gown without trying it on?
Def not. When I went gown shopping I brought about 4 pictures of dresses that I absolutely loved. I knew one of them was going to be the one. When I tried them all on none of them did anything for me. I actuallly ended up getting a dress the sales lady pulled. Def try on your dress before ordering because once you order it you can't get a refund.

Re: Would you order your gown without trying it on?
Even if it was similar I would never buy a dress without trying it on. I want to see exactly how it would look. After all this is the most important dress you will ever buy. JUts becayse it is similar doesnt mean the real one will fit the same. IMO
