I'm so overwhelmed by my make-up vendor search. To add to my disappointment, I had a weird experience with one of the vendors that I'm most excited about. Sent her an are you available email and she wrote back explaining her services and ended one sentence with...and s**t like that.
Very casual reponse to say the least. She's a vendor that's raved about here (not to mention one of the cheapest on my list) but that really just turned me off from her. Rule her out and give her a chance?

I think I know who this vendor is - I exchanged emails with a makeup person who everyone here loves - and I told her that I was excited to meet her and she replied by email by stating'I can't wait to meet you too MAMMA' -
I was like ***? -
I am actually thinking about it - seriously thinking about it - I have this thing with people in business and the way they talk - i strongly believe that the way you speak is instrumental to who you are as a person and how people see you - and although many people think that they don't care what others think about them - it is important to be realistic about it - if you speak like a street thug during an interview for a high position that pays well and happens to be your dream job - the chances of you getting it are slim - even if you are a smart person - if you talk like a thug you will not seem as smart as you are and first impressions are the only ones that matter after that you are classified and filed away - you are what you do - you are who your friends are - you are what you eat - and you are how you speak -
until she replied to me in such a way I saw her as professional and felt lucky that she gave me the time of day considering her schedule - but as soon as she replied the way she did - my image of her changed - now she was a girl that seemed to comfortable and may show up late or not do a great job - or mayeb I am paying too much -
Amen
That's pretty much how I feel. Maybe I'm more conservative than I think I am. The thing that came to mind was if I did hire her, I wouldn't feel comfortable with her opening her mouth around my parents or my grandparents. They would feel sooo uncomfortable.
The trial would cost me and there are plenty of people on my list so I'm just going to X her off.
And if you asked me who it is...(and so many of you FMed me - my mailbox has never seen so much action!)...I'm not going to respond. I feel bad and I'm sure her work is great so...

What was the context? That is just very odd, especially in responding to an email asking if you are free a certain date.
I had asked her questions about her process too. Standard email that I send to the make-up artists...are you available? have a large party how would you accomodate with schedule? what product lines do you use...etc

maybe she was trying to be cool? like- friendly, in a way?
hmmm...i dont think i would rule her out... sometimes in email we get too personal. if she is a good makeup artist, does it really matter if her emails are too casual though?

I agree. It's make -up. If i was someone like my banquet manager saying this then it may be different. But a make up artist, I would give her a chance especially if she gets great reviews like you said.

What kind of way is that to answer an email? I don't care what kind of day you are having, you don't put that kind of language into a letter to a potential customer. That is totally unprofesssional, and I would not use her. If she is unprofessional now, imagine how unprofessional she might be the day of your wedding!
I TOTALLY agree with this statement! I would absolutely rule her out. I have a mouth like a truck driver at some moments, but there is a time and a place for that. You are not her friend, you are a perspective client and that is completely uncalled for. She should conduct herself in the most professional manner. If I hired someone like that and had them come to my house and they fired off swear words left and right, I would be embarrassed in front of my family. No can do for me.
