Cutting people off your wedding list for your dream DRESS? I went to Demetrois bridal yesterday in Macy's and found my dream wedding gown, however its was about $3,000 . Im gonna be honest, this is wayyyyyyyyy over my budget. LOL the manager told me to cut ppl off the list, i was this close to getting it but i really had to sit back and think about my budget. I really love this dress but FH will kill me if I even think about getting it....I dont know what to do

I wouldnt feel right cutting people out for a dress....how much are dresses @ Lillette's ?
Lillette's has a HUGE range in their prices. I tried on gowns that were under $1K, and then others that were around $4K. And they are DEFINITELY willing to work with a budget.

Thank you....I actually can make it :)) ive never been to one before so what should i expect when i do go?
I would call and make an appt. I would also ask how much they are charging for the dress and how much of a discount they are offering. I have only been to one trunk show and they have A LOT of dresses from one designer and they offer a discount if you buy it while you are at the show. It is just like a sale on a designer if that makes sence? With more dresses there for you to try on.
With a guest list of 100 (like mine ) I would NOT cut anyone, you prob just have your family and close friends on your list as it is.
Good luck!

I wouldn't , IMHO. I'd rather have people be with us on the day then wear something few just a few hours that will ultimately sit in my closet forever. I'd rather have people there.
Not only that, they will bring you gifts...your dress won't
I agree.

I agree with the girls who said to shop around and find a better price.

i wouldnt. I think having people there that you care about are more important than a dress you are going to wear once.

I can't believe someone would say that to you!
NO WAY!!!! There are 1000's of dresses out there! You will find it cheaper or find another.
Also if I had to cut something it would not be my guest list, maybe options for the DJ or Photog but not my guests!
She has sooooommmmeeeee nerve!!!!

Check out some maggie sottero dresses...that style shouldn't be too hard to find! But also, call around. I got my dress from macy's only to ask around after it was too late to find that they charged an extra 400 dollars!

Re: Would you sacrifice
Personally, I would cut a person off my list. I've been doing that already. I've cut a guest or two so I can have a live singer at the wedding. I rather have a smaller wedding with all the elements I want in it, than a big wedding with everyone there and it’s not my dream wedding.
My advice do whatever your heart tells you to do, it's your big day.
Demetrios, I must say makes stunning dresses. When I went dress shopping I was looking at Demetrios and Maggie Sottero, the sales woman told me once you try on a dress by any one of them no other designer can compare. For me it's a true statement. I kept going back to those designers, no one else could compare.
Good Luck

I wouldnt cut people off the list -- but I would make some other sacrafices. For example, I have much more expensive taste than my sister, so I know I will most likely end up loving a dress that is much more than she spent. So, I discussed with my mom, and she is not keeping me to a budget. But, if my dress is alot more, I will have to forgoe some of the larger items she planned to buy me for the shower.

Re: Would you sacrifice
i started my search with Demetrios dresses at Macys Bridal. I feel in love with two of them. Called other stores & found them cheaper. I ended up buying a Maggie Sottero dress which at one store quoted me $800 more then another store.
best bet, call around & ask for pricing.

If you go to demetrios' website, you can see what stores have them available.
And to answer your initial question, I would not cut my guest list for a dress, unless you have people on your list that you don't want to come anyway. I would rather have people that FH and I love to come and celebrate the day with us.

This is the dress, but i want it in all ivory, hopefully i can find something similar but cheaper as well.
If I were you I would take that picture to a dress maker and get it for 1/2 the cost.

Re: Would you sacrifice
Well I think it depends... If you have 350 people coming, 65% of whom you don't even really know or care about, then hell yesss cut that number down!!!!
I know that I haddd to have my dress lol so I feel your pain. Idk what I'd do without my dress.

I'm with the girls who said you have to do what you have to do to get your dress. I think I would actually like to cut my list down a bit and i think what I've decided is to cut ceremony music (we are getting married in church with an organist anyway) and probably cut back on shoes (goodbye $750 blahniks). But, I knew I HAD to have my dress.

It was half the price! Shop around till your body and bras can not take it!

Nope, wouldn't sacrafice. ITA...your guests make the party, add to the atmosphere, fun and make those memories you'll look back on.
