My former MOH (not sure if anyone knows that story, but the long and short of it is that she stood me up one day and when I told her I was offended, she told me to go !@$* myself, we sort of reconciled, have not been very good friends since, but she is invited to the wedding)...anyway, she emailed me today asking how much I am paying per head for my wedding. Mind you we have have not really been communicating much lately, so this really came out of left field. She said she needed to know for ettiquite purposes, which I took to mean she does not know how much she's supposed to give us as a gift.
I don't even know how to respond. I am right in thinking this was a fairly rude question? I really don't think it's any of her business.
And also, how would you answer a question like that?

Re: Would you tell?
She sounds like she's not worth your worry. I guess in the interest of keeping things relatively peaceful and stress-free (for you, not for her!) I'd make a joke about it. Some sort of, 'Oh, I'm really stressed about the costs! I think we'll be living in a cardboard box for the next few years! LOL!' Then let it go without any further response to the question. If you want, you might even say something like, 'Thanks for your concern.' That might put her in her place!
Good luck!

That is so rude especially after everything that has happened between the two of you. I think she was way out of line. If I was to respond to her I probably would lie to her. If she was a real friend she would know that anythign she gve to you would be appreciated. Dont wory about her, its your day. Dont let her get you down. Good Luck!

Re: Would you tell?
You guys are all fantastic! My favorite answers to this question have been:
-you should answer 'a lot'
-tell her double what you're paying! j/k
-When DH was asked he lied (he is such a little devil) & told people that we paid $150 per plate (we paid way less) He said if people are clueless enough to ask then they deserve to be lied to
-I would just tell her that you are paying like $200 a head or something just to see what happens. If she is that rude to ask then I would be that rude to give her a outrageous answer.
-I'd make a joke about it. Some sort of, 'Oh, I'm really stressed about the costs! I think we'll be living in a cardboard box for the next few years! LOL!' It’s so funny too, because my FH has been trying to convince me to tell her that “the price range per person for our hall is between X and X amount (i.e.- way more than we paid, just like you, HearzBellz), but when you factor in the flowers, ceremony costs, photo/video, DJ…it really costs a lot more” (He’s a real piece of work, ain’t he? Gotta love him though).
Another great point brought up by Kriss2c is that if we were close friends still it wouldn’t be so bad of her to ask. My mom said the same thing, and considering that this girl has hardly contacted me, and I don’t even want to get into what she’s said when we’ve spoken, because we’d be here for days I’m sure… point being her question was totally inappropriate based on the level of intimacy we have right now.
Honestly I am glad that none of you have told me to tell her. I am still feeling conflicted, though, mainly because I know this girl has no clue of what an @$$h0le she’s being, I’m sure she had good intentions when she asked, and I have a guilty conscience about screwing with her, I suppose.

Re: Would you tell?
If she wants to know the particulars......get the total cost of your entire wedding and divide by the number of Guest. LOL Is your friend an air-head or dingy? Prior to the altercation, Have you guys known each other long enough where you are able to talk so personal with one another?
Bottom line people are rude. You could either give a higher price or say 'alot, give us what you like to give us' I am sure your wedding is not the only wedding she has been to and did not know the price pp.
Edit to add: This takes the cake of a friend of a friend.....he has the unsealed envelope with the blank check inside and depending if the food and music was good, he would give accordingly. How *%cking rude!!!! The funny thing is that he is invited to our wedding. (don't ask....we had to )
