If gratuity is included in what you are paying to your reception hall...are you still supposed to tip the maitre'd, etc.?

i think you ARE expected to tip everyone...but i still haven't decided if i'm going to play that game - especially with the reception hall tht has already added a gratuity tax!!

I am told you do not have to tip owner, however, their helpers you should. I guess tipping the owners is optional. I will see how much cash I have left!

Re: Would you tip your videographer...
I have checked numerous places on tipping..everything says that you dont tip the owners, especially if they work from home..they do not have the overhead of a store, etc. Im sure if they do a wonderful job, you would tip..but I dont think that they expect it. Its a tough thing this tipping..some say taht they tip no matter what because they still have expenses..but taht is why they charge you alot to begin with is so taht they can covre their expenses and still make a profit. I will probably tip anyway..just because I know they will do a great job..but I really think its not expected of owners. I know a few business owners, a DJ and a salon owner..they dont expect tips..but of course are evry happy if they get them.

I also think each reception place is different..my package covers tax and gratuity..but the gratuity only covers teh wait staff, bartenders, valet and coat check..the Matre D is separate..so we will tip him separately. Check with your place and see! I know it gets overwhelming..i have no clue how much to tip..its getting scary!

first off, tips are at your decretion. If someone goes above and beyond the call of duty then a tip is in order. BUT you are not required to tip the owner of a company. I think that is a personal decision, based again on your planning and day of experience with that vendor. and you are never required to tip a vendor, owner or not, that you do not feel really went above the call of duty.
