would you worry about this?
I heard a band at a showcase and really liked them. We are thinking of booking them. Then I got a video for my FH to hear. He liked them but there were NOT as good as they were at the showcase and they had another band member doing vocals MUCH more than in the showcase. Is this something I should worry about or do you think that b/c they were best live that is all I should worry about.
We are trying to book while my FH is home and many bands say on their site that they can send you a tape if you cannot attend their showcase. Well when we email them they tell us sorry it is showcase or nothing - but we can certainly book them by calling as asking questions since we cannot attend. That sounds shady to me.
What do you all think?

Call them up and ask them who will be doing more of the vocals if you choose to book them for your wedding. Also, ask them who fills in if that person can not make it. I would do that before making a decision.

Re: would you worry about this?
Definitely do not go by the video. Wedding bands are not meant to be taped, they are meant to be heard live. Our band ****s on their video, but is amazing live. The only thing you should question is how much they will be performing (in minutes on the contract), and who will be performing. Who sings what is really based upon the playlist you select....

Re: would you worry about this?
See they told me the way the showcase was the way the do the actually wedding - no changes. I already asked about the replacements - that wasn't the issue here because the person singing played an instrument in the band so they would be at wedding anyway. I just thought it was strange that they would have a tape that was so different from the showcase

Do a search by the band name and make sure you do not read a lot of negative reviews or problems with band members coming and going. Also, it doesn't matter if all of the names are on the contract. Cindy had every single band member's name on her contract and 1/2 the band was different the day of her wedding.

Re: would you worry about this?
this particular band I have asked around and did searches and read reviews and ENERYONE has given them an A or A+ rating. I know exactly how it works with emergencies, illness etc. So you never know no matter who you book whether it will be the original or a fill in (that you worked out in advance or not) It just surprised me that they were so different on video than in person. They were not bad just different

Re: would you worry about this?
As long as they sounded good live, that is what counts! Maybe the tape was old and the live version you saw, is the band's updated format. If your situation was reversed I would say stay away.Just be careful, because I have a good friend that is in a popular wedding band, and the band she was in prior to this one (another popular band), would often showcase her and her usual band but they would always double book the date. So really, you only had a 50/50 chance of getting the actual band that you saw. Needless to say, they would only showcase the better band and not the other one. They are able to get away with this because in the contract they state, 'in the event any member cannot attend someone will take their place etc.'
