wow..... (spinoff to how much you are paying thread)

i looked at the 09 'how much are you spending' thread and it seems way lower than the 08 one!

do you think they have budgets right now but didn't realize how much things will really cost, or do you think they are just doing things for less $$$?

I think it will add up...definitely.

But also, their poll is without the honeymoon. Our HM put us into a different bracket.

Personally, I'm spending alot less b/c I'm either using vendors I won at twoty or I have connections ..... Cant see spending crazy money on 1 day... Just not me

def bc when i was first planning i had NO clue wed be spending this much...when u add in hall, dj, photo, video, flowers,hair, makeup, invites, favors, dress, headpiece, veil, shoes, jewlery, ummm the list just goes on...even putting on some extra money for tipping, bridal party gifts, it really does add up!

i think a lot of the girls at 09 (i know me) are 'guesstimating' how much we'll spend......

That is a very good question.....maybe its different for me because I dont live in NY and things in Wisconsin are cheaper....but as for me I personally think u can have a nice wedding and dont have to spend a lot of money. Like I stated in the 09 board people have to live after the wedding and responsibilities will continue. I just been looking around and researching instead of going with the first thing and asking a lot of questions and making a lot of things myself

i think alot of them are guessing. if it wasnt for FH's extremely close, HUGE family, our wedding would be thousands less!!!

I think you are probably right. Weddings in NY especially on LI and NYC tend to be extremely expensive. I think that most of the brides on here have done a great deal of reasearch before settling on one vendor. I know I did. But alot depends on the day of the week as well as time of the year. I am getting married in August on a Saturday night on LI and with a guest list of 250-260 just my RH is costing around $35 k. I have friends who live out side of this area and their weddings cost significantly less.

They don't know what they are in for lol FH thought 20K sounded good, but then after visiting the hall alone we realized that hall is MORE than that lol They'll see......lol

depends on what time of yr, what day of the week, morn/afternoon... i think theres alot of gurls on the 09 board that are having smaller weddings and having it on an off day of the week and in the afternoon.... all that helps a bit

ETA: it can def be done given certain circumstances

At first I wanted a Saturday Afternoon wedding. When looking at RH's, I knew which ones I didn't want to look at because they were either going to be too expensive or because they just weren't 'us.' So out of the ones that we did choose to look at, we just so happened to fall in love with the most inexpensive one. Then, we were having a conflict with the church times vs. RH times for the afternoon and we were able to negotiate a very good price for a Saturday Night in a peak month in the RH that we loved. Of course we have a larger minimum to meet but we are inviting way over that amount anyway. My advice is that if you know you can't spend a certain amount of money, don't look at a place that is

i think if they did the same poll in 09 there would be a lot of brides who would end up upping their budget - when we first booked JT we had a place to start - so we thought everything else would be another 10-15 grand on top of the RH and our budget was like 35-40K and we were dead set on it - once we started booking other vendors we realized that the type of wedding we wanted/vendors we wanted could not be done on that budget - now it looks like we'll be spending in the 50-60K range...so trust me - you see things you want and you change your mind about cost

i think it depends, i mean we did the same poll last year and i DEFINITELY see it higher now than it was a year ago when we didnt have everything done. I have seen many girls whose budget went up from what they had originally thought it would be. Also as we get closer we realize alot of things that we have to put towards our budget that we didnt think too much of in the beginning. I mean many of us are making sure to put tip towards our budget now that we really have to worry about, i think a year ago many of us didnt put that towards our budget.

I guess that can be a big thing. As long as the person does what makes them happy then thats what matters.

but i am sure a good ammount of them dont have THE WHOLE wedding in their price.....things add up if i was only posting how much the vendors cost my ammount would be ALOT LOWER they might not be adding their invites, dress, favfors etc............

its true, alot of people guess what they'll spend on favors but when you really look it can go up. Then theres small things that we dont take into account in the beginning, like not just the favors but the packaging for it, the favor tags and these can add up. Then invites, its not just the invite but then also stamps which can be a few hundred right there alone. Then accessories, DOJ when you dont have it yet, plus shoes, bra, veil, headpiece all add up. Before you buy any of these things, many people guesstimate.

BP gifts is another big thing, then gifts for the readers, rb fg gifts, parents gifts. OOT baskets, room for night of. Also HM expenses.

Many of the small things can add up alot. Plus the 09'ers poll is excluding HM which we all know can add up
