....if you are more scientific about your wedding (as my fh is) you try to figure out a formula to see how things will even out when you come down to the wedding day

JPC, you can try to be as scientific as you want and I'm telling you from past experience ther is no way to tell at all. I can tell you I made about 60% MORE than I thought I would be at whereas a friend of mine made about 40% LESS than the absolute minimum she thought she would receive. If yours does equal please let me know your formula so I can pass it on to my friends who ask me this question!

Where is Amy anyways? She totally vanished from the site....

She's still here...she's NYBride now, or something like that... And there was a 'newbie' today that seemed eerily familiar...
People need more hugs I think!

What creeps me out is this, and if anyone agrees with me let me know, isn't it odd and really wasteful of time to keep creating fake names and planning fake weddings, or if you are planning a real wedding, why create so many fake names and have all these 'alternative' plans? What's missing in some people's lives? Aw, I just pray!

Hi,
Just so you know, I'm really not crazy. I am planning my wedding - the same wedding to the same man LOL I have changed names twice because certain people keep harassing me, FM etc, but I wont get into that

My problem is I post too much personal information. I've learned my lesson the hard way.

Amy, I agree...too much personal info to total strangers can be totally misconstrued. I wish you and Anthony (who shares my fi's name, BTW) the best!

Thank you very much! You too

BTW - now that I know how liweddings works - I would never post a thread like that
That was one month after getting engaged. I've learned a lot since then

So now I'm being confused with Amy and Anthony because I wanted to shed light on this post? THIS is why I'm pissed, and I think this was the start of it all. It just totally turned me off. Maybe people need to reread things more carefully before making EXTREMELY offensive statements, AND read a whole thread before just typing something totally irrelevant. It's all so childish. THAT is my point. I started that thread before to call attention to this, because it has been bothering me for quite some time. Many people posted without reading everything.

My father always talks about how much money he thinks we are going to get back with one of our friends. Now that I did not like. FH and I will mention it but we have so many people that are coming that are friends, I am not expecting alot of money. So I don't really think about it. Honestly, I just hope we get enough to cover our credit card bills that we have left afterwards, that would help alot.

And I would never think people would give 100 a person. I know I could not afford that.

Re: WOW! This is bad

my problem with money and weddings is that you know that for a long island wedding the couple is paying 100 or more per person to have them at the wedding...how can you give a gift less than that knowing that you arent giving them enough to put aside?

A friend of mine who got married years ago got $25 from a family of 3 (one of which was her flower girl, and my friend paid for her dress).

My sister got married a few yrs ago in CA and she had 5 no shows due to a freeway accident but none of them gave her a gift. And one of them was her rich boss!

I've seen that happen before at other weddings. I would sooner die! How class-less!

there are plenty of reasons why someone couldn't give a gift...

maybe they are low in cash
maybe they are OOTers that are spending money on airfare and hotels
maybe they are in your BP and have spent a lot of money of on other things

I don't think it is that unheard of...people give what they can give..if that is nothing...then that is nothing...

i really do not think that is necessarily a bad thing..it depends on the situation! People shouldn't be so quickly to judge

well weddings aren't supposed to be about giving gifts!
And i guess i am thankful 2 of my BM's didn't think the way you do

I am glad that they spent a LOT of money comming in from OOT and spending my day with me...

THAT IS PRICELESS!

I don't think its classless at all... people do what they can with what they have. NOW, not giving a CARD may bother me a little, but only b/c when i was little (OK, and i still do it to this day b/c its a tradition now).. my family and i would always make cards for each other... not like the extreme martha stewart stuff you see these days.. just basic paper white paper and markers. i think that people can do thoughtful things like that, and it doesn't even cost .50 cents, but still congratulates the couple and wishes them happiness.

honestly, we didnt even plug the 'gifts' into our master list yet, so i dont even know if theres anyone that we didnt get a gift/ card from yet. what i do know is that im Extremely embarrased by some of the gifts that we did get. Some people were soo extremely generous, and i feel like 'What did we ever do to deserve such generosity?!' (and ALOT of it was from people that i KNEW didnt 'have that kind of money', but this was something they wanted to do for us... for those people, i actually Wished that they had just gotten us a card

DH and I definately had talks with each other here and there about how much we *thought* we might get, just based on averages, but it wasnt something that held any weight to us... we planned our wedding the way we wanted, regardless of what we could possibly 'make' from it.

seriously, these are our friends and family that came from all over to share in our special day. Its not their *fault* if they dont 'cover their plate'... THEY didnt choose to have the big weding at the fancy place.. WE did, and so in no way (IMO) is it THEIR obligation to cover their cost. I would've been so upset if so many of those people didnt come to celebrate with us just b/c they felt like they couldnt give a certain amount of $$$ that was expected. we invited people b/c we wanted THEM there... not their money.

i do think its a different situation if youre talking about someone that you invite b/c you feel you Have to, or to be cordial... so for those people to not give a gift is kind of like pouring salt into the wound... BUT if you can feel like that, then seriously, you just shouldnt invite those people.

sidenote... my grandmother passed away last year. One of her old friends had kept in touch with my mother and REALLY wanted to come to our wedding. i didnt know this woman that well, but i knew how much it meant to her and to my family, so we invited her without hesitation. Now, this woman had a medical malpratice law suit a while back, and just a couple of years ago, received $14 million. she gave us a $75 dollar gift (BUT she also doesnt drive, and she paid for Car service from brooklyn to long island!!). now, do i think that just b/c she has That much $$$ that We should've gotten more? NO. She had tears in her eyes the whole day b/c of how happy she was for us, and how sad she was that my grandmother couldnt be there with us. her sincerety meant more to me than any gift. Thats why you invite people imo
