WR: Tanning

WR: Tanning

Hi girls...

I got airbrush tanning in the city done last Wednesday before my trip to Florida. It looked amazing for the first day, but it quickly disappeared...so, I've decided that I'm going to do the tanning bed thing before my wedding and get an actual tan (I know, I know....it's so bad for me, etc., but I really want some color for my wedding).

My questions:

Wedding is 2 1/2 months away...when should I start?? How often should I go?? How do I keep from burning (I have VERY pale skin) at first??

Thanks for any help / suggestions with this tanning stuff

Really? It faded that quickly? I wanted to do airbrushing bc I am not into tanning beds. Did it rub off on your clothing at all (besides the first day before you took a shower)?

My wedding is in 5 weeks & I am going to start this week. I am not going to go so often because I don't want to be ridiculously dark & look too fake, I just want added color so I don't burn on my HM & Bc I am so pale now!!!

I just recently started tanning, but I'm using the lighter beds. I'm going maybe once a week, but also because it helps with my skin. (I tend to clear up when I get some sun exposure).

I would start maybe next week and try to go once a week at first to see how you like it. They have lotions you can buy if you're worried about how your skin will react.

i didn't have any problems with it rubbing off on my clothing, although it smelled a little (FH said I smelled like soy sauce - lol)...

I think you just have to be REALLY careful.....I think that maybe my showers are too hot?? I didn't shave for two days because I was afraid of it coming off of my legs....I don't know, I think the showers really did it for me. For $60 I was hoping that it would last a little longer than it did.....it was honestly kind of a pain in the *** because you do have to be sooo careful.

I would start now. Go once a week for a few weeks, at a lower time in the bed.

After you build up, increase your time, continue for one time a week then eventually go as many times as needed!

I will start going starting in March, and will go once a week. However, I have a darker complexition to begin with, and get darker quicker.

I would suggest you going (starting in March as well) and go once a week until you get to the color desired and then go every other week to maintain it.

There are 2 types. The spray booth and the airbrush. I am very very fair so I tried both.

The airbrush stays longer and is more even. You may need 2 applications prior to 'the day'. It lasted about 3-4 days. Then all patchy. They also did a full body scrub/exfoliant to get the best results.

The spray tan is not as good and I looked orange but it's cheaper

And yes, it comes off where you sweat and transferst to clothes. But it washes easy. So not big workout, car without AC, etc.

im personally going to buy a 10 visit package and start using that in march

eta im starting early because i have my bachelorette party in miami april 7-9 so i will need a base before that too - so ill go 5-7 times before the bach party and after ill probably go 2-3 more times before the wedding

I'd start going about 6 weeks before & start off once a week & then 2 weeks b4 go twice a week.

I went 2 times a week for the 2 months before my wedding

I am naturally dark and didn't look too tan-

I know it's bad for you too- but isn't everything?

When I go to the tanning salon, I use the Supervova bed, you're in there for a half an hour, but it's very low level UV bulbs and I don't burn (and I'm pale and usually burn)...and my 'tan' lasts for about a week. I plan on going once a week before the wedding starting 2 weeks before.

I've been having issues with this too!

I wanted to start this weekend (I am almost a month out) but my FH talked me out of it and told me to just go for two weeks before the wedding. I've done that before for other weddings and it's worked out well. I'd go like 3 times for two weeks.

So I am not sure either!!!!

Thanks girls. There is a Hollywood Tan across the street from where I live in the city.....is there a specific type of bed, etc. I should ask for because of my pale skin? I assume they will explain everything to me, but it doesn't hurt to get advice from my LIW girls too

Do you live on the Upper East? I know the Hollywood Tan on 3rd ave, if that the one you'd go to? I went there once for the spray on tan and it was disastrous, b/c I'm an idiot with those things. But, the girls there were pretty informative. They should be able to help you out.

My date is a day before yours - and I'm starting tanning now. Just yesterday I went a bought a package deal for me and FI so we can go unlimited between now and the wedding....we'll probably each go 2-3 times per week. We're both really pale - so I've stocked up on tanning creams to make sure we don't burn too bad and get a good base for the HM.

We both prefer stand-ups, as the color is more 'complete'.

I have no intention of looking overly tanned for the big day - I just want to look healthy.

cool. Can I ask how much your packaged deal was? Do you have to be a 'member' or did you just buy a package as a non-member. What types of tanning creams do you recommend? How long do you stand in the stand up machines?

Definitely use the weakest bed. I don't know how strong the stand ups are but use the weakest bed for 8 minutes. And get eye wear from the staff. But if you're worried about burning, you should ask the staff any questions that you have.

I'm going to a HW tans now. I live in GA, so I don't know if they have the same deal going on up in NY, but it's 19.99 per month and you get the use of the lowest UV bed which is a 42 (#has to do with the bulbs and all, I think). There are 2 more types of beds after that. The higher the number, the better the bulb (so I was told), so you don't burn! I am VERY pale myself, and it takes me a long time to get some color. So, I started out in the 42 bed for about 4 mins (that's how pale I am) b/c I didn't want to burn. I've been going for about a month now, and I do about 7-8 mins now. Every now and then I'll pay for an upgrade to a higher bed. But I definitely go in for less time when I upgrade.

HTH.

I too am very pale and only started tanning a couple of weeks before the wedding. I have some nice color now, but made sure to do the best quality bed (no burning rays) and keep the minutes to a minimum. Slow and steady was my motto as I refuse to burn. Would recommend the same for you. You don't need too many sessions before you will see a little color.
