WR: Tanning

Re: WR: Tanning

Please do not use a stand-ups!!!(not until you are brown)!!! those are the worst beds for girls like us..(pale skin)...you will get burned....trust me I have pictures to prove it....try to use the more expensive beds (not because they are expensive) but because they are better for you, they use special lamps.....they are called high pressure beds...start early..you will not see results until the third or fourth time you go, so it is better to do it slowly....

ask for beds that are 90% bronzing 10% burning....do not use creams with bronzers the first few time you go....

you will need to go 3-4 per week to develop a tan and then 1-2 times to maintain it....

hope this helps!!!!

thanks. what is the 90% bronzing, 10% burning mean?? is this self-tanning or an actual tanning bed?

It is the actual bed..(no creams)..there is no bed that will give you 100% bronzing (no burning at all)....most are 70-30% 80-20% or 90-10% (I know because we almost opened a Beach Bum salon-and I took classes)...anyway, ask for high pressure beds....the ones that look funky and very high tech are the best....you will probably pay around $15-20 per session for those beds....try to get a package....

Anyone have been to Beach Bum in East Meadow.....tell me the good and the bad? How does it work? Do you wear protection? I don't like bikini line (top) how do I avoid that. I'm not pale skin nor dark skin, when I tan.....which I love to do..... I get that brown color that I love....would I get something similar?

Thanks for any info!

That's where I go!! they are clean and have good machines....

you can take off your top and just wear your underwear or go totally naked.....I put those little stickers they have on my nipples....to avoid burning them....if you tan easily, you will get great color with tanning....

Try the Ergoline 600 or 800, it is a nice (good) bed...I pay $49 for a week (unlimited)

Re: WR: Tanning

I go to Planet Del Sol in Bayside and I use the high pressure bed- the first time I went in August for my MOH wedding I tried less time in low level beds and it didn't work and I burned.

The high pressure bed I use is great- I went a few weeks ago and saw results right away (last time I as already a little tan when I swtiched to that bed). It's a one sided bed and you stay for about a half and hour and flip- you just have to time it yourself. I go topless with just a thong and put sunscreen on delicate upper areas! I'm very pale and burn easily....I need to go at least 2-3 times a week at first and then maintian it....tho I didn't give my self enough time before my wedding so I'm going as often as I can and will stop Thursday (have to go today now that I think of it).

The thing with salon tanning- while any tanning except sprays etc has risks the danger in tanning is burning and the UVA or UVB rays (I forget which is the more dangerous)- tanning beds are designed to give mostly the lower risk rays so tanning salons are a little better if you have to tan.

Talk to the people at your salon but keep in mind that they don't always know what they are talking about and try to sell you things that you might not need (expensive creams, etc).
