Wyndham or Marriott in Hauppauge/Islandia?

For our wedding night we are deciding between these hotels. We are going to see the Wyndham tonight, and we saw the Marriott the other day. The executive suite is nice. I dont know anything about these 2 hotels, does anyone have any good or bad info on them? One night wont matter much but the wedding ends at 5pm and we are intending to have a few friends back with us for a few hours that evening. So we need a nice restaurant/cafe/lounge thing. The marriott restaurant seems nice but the lounge is not really set up for a group. Any advice is appreciated!!

Wyndham or Marriott in Hauppauge/Islandia?

Leyann we are looking at the same hotels. In addition we are thinking about the Sheraton. They all have nice lounges and pools. The Wyndham as an affiliation with a near by golf course. So far the Sheraton had the best rates for a standard foom$129.00/room/night for 10 rooms. Their rate for a suite was also the best but I dont remember what it is.

Wyndham or Marriott in Hauppauge/Islandia-Fran

I stayed at the Sheraton a few years ago and also had our prom there. Both times I hated it. This is going back a few years ago so it might have changed since then but I dont want to chance it. The people there werent to nice or helpful, the food was horrible. But again, with management these days, it could have changed!!

Wyndham or Marriott in Hauppauge/Islandia

We are looking at the Marriott too, since we have a block of rooms there for our guests. I haven't seen it yet. My friend had her wedding at the Wyndham and I stayed there the night before the wedding and it was very nice.

Thanks for the input - you know what they say you get what you pay for. They are $40.00 less than the other places.

Ok I saw all of them : ) Long!

We saw the Marriott, Wyndham, Sheraton, Holiday Inn (right next to the airport). Marriott is nice, has been redone in the past 5 years (forgot I had been there about 5 years ago and it was nice and the food was good). People there are helpful, rooms are ok...biggest room we saw was the Executive Suite which is $269 a night. One big room with a living room area. Its ok...Then we went to the Sheraton just to look... OMG the lobby is so weird! I cant describe it... water all around with (i am horrible with words) statutes (i know theres a name for them) in the water, a motif on the walls... they just redid it a year ago... its not my taste but we couldnt see the guest rooms because they were all booked...I was not really impressed with it... You know how first impressions are...Holiday Inn by Islip Airport-I was surprised!! Looks ok from the outside but the inside is nice. Couldnt see rooms, the sales staff wasnt there but it was nice what we saw of it, we were sooo hungry we ate in the restaurant. GREAT!! I was really shocked... We figured you know.. hotel and all.. I had Penne ala Vodka and it was better than some italian restaurants!! I cant wait till lunch today to eat it again~ :) Fi had steak which he loved too... So at least that was good... OK now the Wyndham - ALL THE WAY!!! Staff is ok but rooms are nice. We saw the Presidential Suite- $500 for the night BUT- you have a totally seperate bedroom from the living room/dining room! Since we will be having guests over- this is what we want, bedroom is seperate key to get into (not that i am nervous of anyone stealing from us-but just the idea of our cards and stuff being right there...) Its georgous. But if you dont want to do the $500 room then go with their suites. They are nice too. Forget how much they are. Nice pool/fitness area, sand volleyball court. Overall very nice and spacious! Hope this helps anyone else! Now, the presidential suite has a hold on it for our night so the guy is going to call them to find out if they definately want it... if not its our if they want it.. well Fi is going to cry : ) Wish me luck!

Ok I saw all of them : ) Long! Leyann Whats your Date?

I see you are Sept ?? 01. 9-14-01 for us. We are probably switching to the Wyndaham after your post about the Sheraton. Thats not us with the hold on the Presidential suite (unless my FI has a big surprise for me).

Sept 30th. If you get a chance, look at them. Now I am concerned because we put a hold on a few rooms at the Ramada in Riverhead near East Wind (where the wedding is) but we havent seen it, so I dont know how our guests will feel. Fi's family from out of state have money and want nice stuff so...we have to go out there and check it out too... Look at the Wyndham though, the Marriott might be more your taste but I love the whole look of the Wyndham and everything. The Marriott is much nicer inside than outside but once we saw the rooms in the Wyndham.... Are you getting nervous? I am ok so far but I know its coming fast!! Especially with the summer, its going to fly by!

Fran, If you switch to the Wyndham I'll probably see you there!! We have rooms booked for Friday and Saturday night but our wedding is on Sunday so most people will just need Saturday night. We don't have a hold on the room either but now I'm thinking about calling!

Leyann & Misha

My FI saw them all, liked them all. The only difference he saw was the pools, and the fact that Wyndham has access to a golf course. Which is really what I expected, he is not much for details. I am getting really excited. I got the invitation proofs from my brother the other day and the timeing really hit me. So much detail stuff still to decide and do. When are you sending your invites out? I was planning on July 16 but might go earlier because of this postage thing.

The golf course is what enticed my FI also! I just got my proofs as well and so they are all ordered. Will probably send them out 2nd week of July also. I still have so many little things to do. Haven't even figured out what kind of flowers I want yet! I guess I better start moving!

Hotels and Sept. date

My wedding is Sept. 15th and I have rooms reserved at Marriott for guests. Think I might call to reserve the suite room for Saturday for us. We'll all be there around the same times! How weird.

Yes, the golf course here too :) but he liked the sand volleyball court too. We order our invites this month, I am so excited to do it! I think we are going to send them out middle of July. Since wedding is 9/30 it should be end of July but... I am anxious.. I just met with our florist Tuesday night and she gave me some great ideas for our centerpiece however I am not good at envisioning and need to actually see it! So shes going to make one up for me. We are doing (making) candles in clay pots as favors so the centerpiece will be in a clay pot too (or plastic-I am clueless) so it blends... Like I said I havent seen it yet so... I cant believe its 4 months away....I just keep thinking that I have time but with the summer... its really going to fly, its not like the slow winters..At least here. What colors are you doing? Girls dresses are deep purple called victorian mauve...so I think deep rich colored flowers.

Stef Are you taking pictures in the Smithtown area? Our reception is at Watermill, they have very nice gardens but I also wanted someplace with a more natural setting.

2 Night Stay

They told us only one night we had to maintain 10 rooms, the second night we didnt need to reserve but they would do it as a courtesy. We told them we only needed one night and they said that was all that was needed. Maybe the season has different requirements though.

Fran, I'm not sure where we are going yet. I wanted to go back towards my hometown in Stony Brook/Setauket, but it's in the opposite direction of the reception hall. But Smithtown Landing only lets you take pictures in a limited area because it's a golf course, and they don't want you walking all over it. Where were you thinking? If you have any suggestions I would love to hear!

Any Hotels with transportation?

I was just wondering if any of the mentioned hotels have transportation for the guests? I have heard some hotels include this as a courtesy, to and from the reception. This would save us alot of money on a limo and party bus.
