Should I start to inquire about blocking off rooms for guests? How did you go about knowing the number of rooms?

Re: X POST from 09 WHEN?
I did it a year in advance because I was worried that the hotels would be full if I waited....I dont know that you neessarily need to wait a year, but don't wait too long because I learned that the LI hotels do full up, especially during wedding season.
I made a list of the OOT guests that I thought would come and would be likely to stay in the hotel and worked from that. In the end people we thought would stay didnt, and people we didnt think would stay did. So you really dont know without actually asking people, but you can get an idea. Also find out if the hotel lets you block rooms without having to guarantee that a certain amount will be booked.

Re: X POST from 09 WHEN?
I did it in February/March for August, but I'm also getting married on a big weekend. We just looked at our guest list and who was oot. Our hotel asked how many rooms we thought we would need so we took a guess...they only let us block 10 rooms at a time until like 70% books up. The block is open until 1 month before the wedding. After that, they will honor the rate if they have any rooms open but they don't guarantee anything after that date. If you are sending out Save the dates, you might want to block before that so people have options. Good luck!

Re: X POST from 09 WHEN?
I did it a year before. I am having such a huge problem. My OOT guests had taken for ever to get their hotel rooms that the hotel we are using will no longer block off rooms. They can get rooms if they have cancelations. Now some of our guests will not be staying at the same hotel as everyone else as well as the tranportation we are offereing.
