X-Post: HELP w/ my DISGUSTING Neighbor!!!

Ugh, this has been an ongoing issue. I'll try to keep it short.

Our neighbor that's across our apartment - leaves her apartment maybe 2 times a week MAX (for food shopping). She also has 3-4 dogs in her apartment, NEVER takes them out (I've asked the doormen, the super, and the board), and does not have a balcony or patio. Which means these poor dogs are stuck inside that hours 24/7. She's also a hoarder (only the super has gone in her apartment once, and told us that her whole tub is filled with junk).

Anyhow, when she does go out food shopping, she brings her things up in a cart, and then slowly bag by bag brings it in so that nobody sees her at all. She's PSYCHO. This also means her door remains opened for a longer period of time = DISGUSTINGLY STINKY!!!

We've already filed a complaint to the board and are awaiting next steps, have tried spraying multiple things outside of our door, and still nothing. I just bought a new pet odor block thing, so waiting to see if that works. I wanted to see if anyone that has pets maybe knew the best way to get rid of odors? It's so f*cking gross, especially the two days (happen to be Fridays and Sundays) that she leaves the house.

It's making us miserable, and now we're waiting to see if they can do anything about it, but it's a co-op and she's been there forever so it will take forever for htem to do anything.

I'm just grossed out by it, we didn't smell anything when we first got the apartment During the week it's fine because she doesn't open her door, but when she does it makes me want to vomit.

Any advice?!?!?!

i don't have any advice either b/c my dog doesn't go to the bathroom in the house, so our apartment isn't smelly.

however, i can relate. we have an woman that lives in the apartment next to ours. she's has cats and whenever we walk past her apartment into ours, we can smell the cat pee through the door. it's obvious that she never cleans the litter box (if she even has one). we've been in her apartment once b/c she asked us for some help with her tv. omg, what a disaster! she puts the cat food on the floor throughout the apartment and the carpeting is all stained and it just smells horrible in there.

just hold your breath and hopefully the board does something soon <3

tape car fresheners to her door, and hang bottles of febreeze from the ceiling.

There's really nothing you can do for the pet odors if the pets owner isn't taking care of them. You can call the aspca but that might make things pretty awkward, see if maybe you can call the dep't of health.

Ewwwwwww

Has the board said anything? I'd call the ASPCA voicing your concern on the doggies

Can you tape car fresheners to your door?

I feel so bad for those poor pets! And of course, for your nasal passages too!

We're waiting to take her to court...so I can't say more about that, but I don't know when that will happen because the whole process takes forever! I just wish they would evict her. We pay so much money in maintenance, that I'm really close to threatening that we'll stop paying it until they fix it.

Hubby suggested that we tape a sign to our door that says 'CLOSE YOUR DOOR' so she sees it whenever she gets out. I like the car freshners ideas. I'm gonna make a whole design on her door out of it that says YOU SUCK. Seriously though, I think I'll do that in the wall that seperates us.

Call the Department of Health. My grandmother had a similar issue in her Coop. The only difference was that the odor coming from the neighbor was so strong that the door didn't have to be open. Once the Dept. of Health was involved, the stinkiness subsided.

Adelina..Im on the board od my building so here is my advice. Dont srop paying maintenNce. It will hurt your case unfortunately. But continue to file 'quality of living' complaints and keep it documented. File complaints with 311 and document that. Keep calling the board and management. They will listen if you press them. Also, in writing, ask them to send a letter to all tdnants rdgarding cleanliness, garbage disposal, and pet health. If tgey wont, you type one and put it in the elevator. Good luck ! It takes time but dont give up. Eventuly it will be rectified. Who is the managing company? Inbox me that info and i can help spread the word.
