where do you teach aerobics/stretch?
i would love to go to a class
but actually in answer to your question, it's hard to find a place to work out where i feel comfortable doing so.
for the longest time i did stuff on my own (videos, extensive walking, etc.) but that gets so boring.

What keeps you from exercising? LAZINESS

Do you know the benefits of exercise? health, body image, etc. YES, VERY MUCH. I'M MARRIED TO A TRIATHLETE!

What would help you exercise (time, partner, cost, knowledge/instruction of equipment, etc.) A FREE PERSONAL TRAINER AND A PART-TIME JOB!

What are your health/fitness goals? TO LOSE WEIGHT AND BE IN THE BEST SHAPRE OF MY LIFE BEFORE I TTC

I am trying to get an understanding of what keeps people from exercising daily HOPE THIS HELPED A LITTLE, EVEN IF IT MAKES ME LOOK BAD!

Thanks girls! ANYTIME

ETS: I get bored with cardio.. running on a tradmill is SO boring to me. I'd rather do an aerobic class or kickboxing or something... so that's hard to find for me, and where my laziness comes in!

Jenny2penny- Ill answer

I am overweight definitley. And I am just plain lazy, although I know that I must exercise I cant motivate myself enough. My hubby goes to the gym daily and watches what he eats.

We even joined a gym together and I had a personal trainer and that failed

The only time I ever succeeded at weight loss and exercise was when I lived in Florida, I excersised regularly and watched what I ate. I lost 50 lbs.

I thini its lifestyle

What keeps me from exercising more is time!!! I am not going to work out before work because I would be late everyday and during the evening I have to cook, pay bills, get ready for the next day, etc.

I actually take Karate classes for 2 hours 3 days per week, but I find it hard to find time to fit in more than that.

what keeps me from exercising?

i'm lazy too i guess. i just feel like i have more fun things to do. there's not enough time in life to waste it doing unfun stuff you know? i mean i already waste 8 hours a day at a job i hate. i don't find exercise fun at all. even if it's step class or something. it's fun for a week or two and then i'm like ughhh.... step again?

do i know the benefits?

yes and i know i should exercise, but i just don't enjoy it.

what would help me exercise?

i don't know. for it to be fun somehow, not sure how though. and probably if i had more time available. like if i could go first thing in the morning or if i didn't work all day.

health/fitness goals?

i'd love to lose 10 lbs. i'd also love to run a marathon again and do it with a 10 mpm pace (i ran my last one at around 13 mpm).

hope this helped!!

Re: Question to those who Don't or Hate Exercising (daily).....Why??? (see you can be on LIW & work too)

What keeps me from exercising is lack of motivation and time. I always feel like I'm stretched too thin- between working full time and going to school part time... I'm too tired in the morning to excercise and not into it when I crawl through the door at 7.00pm. By the time I cook dinner, clean, and talk with DH it's practically time to go to bed & start all over! Plus DH isn't into going to the gym either- he occassionally plays raquet ball- but maybe only 2-3 times per month.

I know the benefits of excercise- but it seems to do it right and get a personal trainer it is such a time and $ committment.

I know I'm overweight and should drop at least 20 pounds.. but I've always been this way so I guess it doesn't way as heavily on my mind say as someone who was once thin and then got a little chubby.

I've been wearing the same pants size my entire adult life... so although I'd like to be thinner, I guess I just am used to myself.

sheesh- that was long winded....

in the end- it's all excuses. I have a treadmill in my house. There is no reason why I can't jump on that bad boy for 30 minutes a day.. except for it's last on my list and therefore never gets done.

My biggest problems with exercise are:

1. I don't have enough time to go to a gym between work and school.

2. I can't seem to maintain long-term motivation. I started doing pilates DVDs at home in the morning and I was doing well but after six weeks I dwindled from 4-5 times per week to once a week, and then nothing.

It's a constant pattern 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off so I lose all the progress I make. Its a vicious cycle.

I don't even want to lose weight (well, 5 pounds maybe) I just want to lose the fat around my waist and thighs and build muscle tone.

Re: Question to those who Don't or Hate Exercising (daily).....Why??? (see you can be on LIW & work too)

Sheer laziness and lack of discipline keep me from exercising on a regular basis. Add to that I am a big baby and prefer to workout with a friend.

I am fully aware of the benefits of exercising yet this does not motivate me enough to do anything about it. I would love to look better, feel better, have more energy, sleep better, improved cardio-vascular health and self esteem, and on and on.

I was talking to a friend last night and we decided that we are going to join Curves together and go at lunch time since we work near each other. Our initial goal is to go at least 2 days a week and then add on. I do have a tendency to have this all or nothing attitude which is usually over whelming and has always led to failure.

My personal goals are to lose a pound a week for 2004. Like I said above, excercise at least 2 times a week. I am hoping to improve my health overall and feel that everything else will fall into place if I can accomplish this goal.

1. Bally's that I joined - nothing is ever available (no bikes, no treadmills, no ecliptical machines, no circuit training machines) when I go. I've sat there for 1/2 hour waiting and waiting and gave up and went home.

2. I like to walk but it's too dark in the a.m. when I get up

3. By the time I get home I have to clean or do laundry or food shop. I don't like how FH cleans, he won't do the laundry and spends too much if he does the shopping so I have to do it

4. Lazy

5. Scared that it won't make a difference anyway

I will be going back to Curves in January.

Jenny...

I don't excercise b/c:
1.The cost of joining a gym or buying equipment
2.I tend to be lazy...I'm exhausted at the end of the day and I'm NOT a morning person
3. I'm overwhelmed as it is with wedding planning...where am I going to find the time?
4. I do try to eat right and stay healthy...I know the benefits of excercise, and I would like to tone up rather than lose weight (FH likes me the way I am) and when it's spring and summer...I love to take long walks.
5. We have no room to put any equipment if we did buy it.

**ETA: I've been told that I am healthy and my weight is normal for my age and height (26, 132 lbs--*gasp** I ADMITTED MY WEIGHT!!)...I just have a little 'pudge' in the mid section

I'm just lazy. Nothing would motivate me. I have no desire to exercise. Not even spending the money on memeberships or equipment (we've gotten our workout from moving the damn treadmill from den to the basement and back and back and back and back ....).

Jenny- I like that 15 minutes at a clip idea.. i bet I can do that.. I do have a treadmill.. If I did 15 minutes before I got in shower and then did 15 minutes at lunch I can certainly lift my free weights at home for 15 minutes.

I will start tonight!

Let's see.
For me it's Money, Time, environment and practicality.

Money: I really don't have the cash to pay out money for a Gym, I don't have room at home for exercising and no money to buy the stuff I'd need to make working out at home worth it.

Time: Getting to and from the gym is always a pain. I wish I had stuff closer. I want to hop in and hop out.

Environment: I used to play sports for 7 years (back in the day) I like interaction. I hate just me and the weight, per se. I mean I don't mind working out on my own, but good company with light talk is a great way to ignore which rep you're on. Time flies. Which is probably why Physical Therapy is so easy for me. I let them count I just guess how many Im at and add five to whatever I need.

Practical: This is also sorta of time related as well. It just doesn't make sense to me to try to cut back on working at my desk to run over and work out 3 times a week. This month is a perfect example I have been at the office until at LEAST 8pm for just about every single day this month. I have completely skipped all Physical Therapy cause it would jeprodize (sp) the projects that Im working on. It's bad enough half of my work goes home with me. So it's doesn't make sense to risk my job to go to a gym. I have my weekends, sure, but one day a week, what's the point?

So here's the deal, if it were easier to get to, I had a buddy or two, no major waiting in lines for equipment, I had a planned circuit, It was free, it was around 24/7 and I lived in a perfect world, I'd work out every day!
