Re: How many grandparents does your child have?

Liz

the fact that you are making sure that your children have a great relation with your mom will make it all worthwhile...

my grandparent that lived the longest...was a mean and grumpy man...but I have such great memories of my grandmother - it doesn't matter...

DH's father passed away before he was born...and my father is a old, mean grumpy man (like his father), but I know my children will have great relationships with their grandmothers!!!

Re: How many grandparents does your child have?

My family has been truly blessed when it comes to our elders living long and watching their family grow. I knew my own great-grandparents very well - growing up near to them, and learning so much from them. My great gpa passed when I was in sixth grade, but both of my great gma's lived to be 96 yrs. young.

Paul has 4 doting grandparents and 5 great-grandparents. He is a very, very lucky child.

Liz...while I can't relate exactly to how you must feel, I think that as long as Luke and his brother/sister know the special kind of love of at least ONE grandparent, their lives will be richer for it!

Re: How many grandparents does your child have?

My husband's parents are (and pretty young) but live 7-8 hours away and I am not sure that our baby will see them that often. My father passed away recently, so it is just my mom now! She makes an excellent grandma and my father made an excellent grandfather. It is too bad that he isn't actually here physically to be a part of this and as you can tell, it does bother me. I never met his father (my grandfather) because he died prior to my arrival.

As for greatgrandparents, I have no grandparents left but Chris has two grandmothers and one grandfather still alive.

Sean has my mom ('Nana' - who he sees at least once a week and they adore each other) and Steve's mom ('Grandma' - who lives in Tampa and didn't even send him a 1st Christmas or Hanukkah CARD!!!!! ).

Both of our fathers are gone. Neither Steve nor I have living grandparents, either. It does sadden me that he'll never have a grandfather, but he has an incredible Nana and loads of wonderful aunts/uncles and cousins. So I consider him lucky in that sense.

Patrick only has one grandparent. Johns Mom who lives in a home in Ireland. Both my parents & Johns Dad passed away years before Patrick was born.

But, the way I look at it. My Mothers father passed away before I was born. But, my Mom talked about him all the time. So, I felt I got to know alot about him. It's not the same but, it's better then not knowing him at all.

I consider myself to be very lucky since our child will have 5 loving grandparents (mom remarried), and 3 great grandparents since both of my grandmothers are alive and one grandfather(he's 92 going on 72!).

Nicolas has 2 grandmothers (Nanny and Nonna), 2 grandfathers (Poppy and Pop-Pop), 1 great grandmother (Grandma) and 1 great grandfather (Grandpa).

I think the love of even just 1 special grandparent means the world, so don't worry!!

My child will grow up with 2 grandmas, 2 grandpas and one set of great grandparents.

I grew up with only one set of grandparents and that's all I ever knew. Both sets of DH's grandparents died when we was young

I know my dad raised us all with terrific stories about his parents, and I also know at the same time that he was sad they were n;t able to see all his kids grow up (there are 6 of us). So I know that as my dad becomes a grandpa, he will do all he can because his dad couldn't.

Re: How many grandparents does your child have?

Liz, Im sure he'll have that special bond with even ONE special grandma to bond with.

John Anthony has 3 grandparents.
Both of my parents (nonno and nonna) and Johns mom (grandma-he calls her AMMA )

Im also very big on grandparents being very active in his life. Any chance I get, I let his grandma have some time with him. (he has time with my parents all the time) Im in Queens right now, at my moms and I dropped him off at 'Amma's' house for 2 days, and we're all spending the day together tomorrow (cousins included) She TREASURES each minute with him, and I think its healthy for him to have alone time with anyone that special.

Im sure that even though Luke doesnt have grandpa's around, he will have many strong male figures in his life that will be just as influential and meaningful to him.

Annalise is blessed to see 4 grandparents on a regular basis. She has 3 great-grandparents and sees 2 of them regularly.

Liz !!

Ryan is fortunate right now that he has all 4 of his grandparents. I just hope that he has them with him long enough to have some memories with them. I had my 2 grandmothers alive when I was young, but only 1 lived long enough for me to have great memories of her --- I miss her terribly especially now. I wish Ryan was able to know his great-grandma. Luke is blessed to have one Grandma he can get real close to!

Re: How many grandparents does your child have?

Unlike her mama, Gianna is very lucky and has a lot of grandparents!! I only had my grandmother (my father's mother) and she died when I was 9 and I was devasted!

Gianna has Nanny & Papa (my parents), Grandma & Grandpa (Joe's mother & her husband), Grandpa (Joe's father), and then she has 'Great' Nanny (Joe's grandmother) and 'Great' Mama (Joe's other grandmother)!!

I wanted his parents to be called Nonna and Nonno to distinguish the difference between all the grandparents, but NOPE, my MIL didn't want that. (Nothing I say goes, but that's another story for another post and time)
