Re: Top 100 Baby Names 2003 - does anyone believe this?

I wanted to name my boy Caleb...:(

If it's a girl, it'll have to go by XXX because I don't have anything picked out. I wanted Brianna but that name is sooo popular right now. I'm still thinking of Sierra but my brother said to go easy on the exotic names because when they go for interviews when they get older, they could be stereotyped because of their name. My brother said unfortunately his company tosses resumes from individuals with names like Jasmine, Amber, Summer, etc. because the owner says they sound like stripper names Great, so I should pick something bland so that they are taken seriously?

I really like Sierra Paige too, dammit!

Growing up with a somewhat popular name myself (there were always more then one Debbie in class), I always said that I wouldn't give my children the trendy/popular names that were out at the time.

Hence Gianna for the Cub -- which is becoming more popular, but there's still no magnet with her name on it that I've seen, so we're still good!!!

Now if she was a boy, I was going to name him Angelo -- not popular at all and according to my mother and MIL -- it's an 'old man's name'!!! Not for nothing but their names aren't exactly 'young sounding'!! I mean come on, my name is going to sound pretty ridiculous when I'm 90 and Joe's calling me 'Deb'!!! At that age, I should be called Esther or something!!!

AND NO OFFENSE TO ANYBODY NAMED ESTHER.

I had about 7-8 friends/family members that had babies in 2003. One was Ethan and another was Caleb. I have another friend due in a few weeks and her baby will be Aidan.

Ethan's mom said that the pediatrician told her they had a lot of Ethan's as patients.

Edited to say:

Other names for my friend's babies this past year were:

Duncan (family name)
Victoria (the only girl out of all of my friends babies)
Harrison (family name)
Trent
Anthony
Eli

I was at the pediatrician the other day and there were FOUR AIDANS and THREE ISABELLAS! And there were NOT that many kids there in the first place! Of course, I had to wait a while, so I saw a few rounds of kids enter and leave, but still. I love the name Isabella, and was so close to using it but am glad I went with Sophia - it's just a little less common and growing up as a Chris and Jennifer, I felt we needed some spice!

Ugh...

Brian and I have been talking about what we are going to name baby #2 when we get a baby#2! It was so hard for us to pick Alexzander's name... Actually it is the ONLY boy's name I LIKED... I am seeing so many alex's around now. I have only one girls name that I LOVE... so if we have a boy, I am screwed!!! He will have to be 'Baby Boy' !!
