Okay, I had a couple attend my wedding. Their son got married 5 weeks later. He basically plagiarized the ceremony program that I designed...down to the exact font and size of my letters. It truly bothered me because in place of the dedication that I had to my deceased father in law, this couple wrote something else. I felt like it was almost disrespectful to my father in law, to copy something that was dedicated to him and then erase all mention of him...

They also copied my place card setups...

(they were REALLY ANNOYING...as soon as I got back from my honeymoon, they started calling my Mother in Law, asking her to replicate things that she made for our wedding and asking for the names of where I got my favors)

Mind you, none of these people EVER said A WORD to me or my husband. My MIL was a guest at this wedding and told us afterward.

So, here is part of what I wrote in my thank you card to this couple:

'We were flattered to learn that your son, Robert, was able to incorporate some of the elements of our wedding into his own! We hope to meet Robert and his new wife, Mary, soon! We hope to see you soon.'

AND, I am afraid to send this card too soon because I don't want 'Robert and Mary' to copy all of the little things that I am trying to do to make it unique...

I don't think it sounds rude at all!

I don't think it sounds rude. Plus they(Robert & wife) may not ever see the thank you.

I don't think it sounds rude. But from your post, it sounds like you want it to be slightly rude. So if that is the case, I don't think they would get that you are irritated. I hope that makes sense.

I would just write a regular wedding thank you and leave out the likeness of your weddings..

Could be. But, I never thought that they'd see my programs, petal cones, or place cards. But, they did, and then they tried to copy as much of it as they possibly could...

It would have been nice for them to at least ASK us if we minded...

I think that if my MIL ends up getting a thank you card from THEM that is a copy of MINE, I think that will be the straw that breaks the camel's back...that's part of the reason why I am letting the parents know that I am aware that my stuff was 'borrowed'...

did their son attend your wedding?

hm..from some of your posts lately, it seems as though you've had a lot of trouble with people IN GENERAL concerning your wedding. perhaps you should just be thankful the wedding is over and that everything went well, and forget about all the nonsense surrounding it. sorry to be so blunt.

I totally understand why you are annoyed. BUT... that being said... your wedding was FIRST... so I think that it's fair game at this point. The person who did it 2nd is the 'coppier' and it is not 'original' for them, so you have nothing to worry about. YOURS was unique, and that is all that matters!

I think that you should definetely write that in the card. But I think you should also feel honored that people liked you ideas so much, that they used it at their wedding. Take it as a compliment. People are supposed to have their 'own' wedding, and if they could not do this on their own, feel bad for them. Just know that your wedding was your 'own', and that you had to lend your expertise to make someone else's wedding worthwhile

IMO, it doesn't sound rude enough.

What you have sounds fine- not rude at all.

But if you want to get the point across that you're annoyed by it, that doesn't. It almost sounds like you're happy about it, so they probably wouldn't think twice about using your TY.
